Pet peeve of the day - blade coatings

Depending on the knife I like the look of a black dlc coating, only if it’s a collectible though. Same with satin, they look great unless they get scratched up. If it’s a knife I’m going to use, then stonewash or blackwash for sure.

....or there are a lot of people that simply ACCEPT them, because there are no other options. I accept some of them because I really like the knife, but after initial fondling - it is straight into the stripping pan.
Hey Shane. I'm thinking about stripping a blade. Do you have any recommendations for learning how to do that?

I've never been a fan of coated blades, I've always went towards satin blades of any variety. I do however like a nice stonewash, and recently I have even started to find acid washed, worn, acid stonewashed etc, pretty attractive on the right blades.

I think some makers use the powder coat type coating to hide flaws in their finish work.

Hey Jerickson, I would suggest searching this forum, or Googling "How to strip knife coating". There are several different products (all of them corrosive - be safe!) available which will remove most coatings.
I have had good success with Jasco Paint and Epoxy Remover, available at Walmart or most home improvement stores.

Thank you! I’ve been googling as well, but always prefer asking folks who have done it, when possible. Appreciate the response.
