Pet Peeves...

Okay, I have many pet peeves, but the two that really makes me angry is:

1. Waiting for a knife - Call me impatient, but I hate waiting for knives to come in the mail. I hate it especially when it could come the next day or the next month.

2. Why can't dealers LET you know when something is on backorder or not in stock?!? Is it too hard to spend 20 seconds and email the customer and tell them something is on backorder? But no... they wait until 3 weeks pass until the customer is pissed wondering whats gone on. Are we not entitled to KNOW what is with OUR order?

Sorry for ranting, but if you order knives through mailorder a lot, then you feel my pain.

Anyone else have nagging annoyances or peeves?

....and no knives....

Sending a knife in for warranty work, promised a return date and then waiting for weeks after said date with no reasonable excuse as to why....

Absolutely hate waiting for my new knives. Starting to think about UPS SonicAir same day service; only $159.

Bad communication. Just like you, David, I do a lot of business with mailorder since I live outside the US. I really dislike bad communication especially with Internet orders.
- No order confirmation. Don't even know if your order went through. Waited two weeks then i had to email them.
- No shipping confirmation. Did they ship your order already? Also waited two weeks then I had to email them.

Nowadays, when I met the good dealers who actually take the trouble to inform me whats up, I stick with them. The prices may be higher but at least my blood pressure stays normal. AG Russell's prices may not be the lowest, but I have to say ordering from them is as painless as they come, at least in my 3 years experience in dealing with them.

All of you should try 1stopknifeshop.com Order confirmation almost instantly, UPS tracking and it supports Bladeforums.com On top of all that sometimes you get Spark in a pink tutu.

I have to agree with Cal. The Mike and Spark show do a great job, they are not always the lowest, but they do price match. The order confirmation and UPS tracking is great. Spark in a pink tutu, now that is just sick.

My current beef is that UPS tracking showed my MT LCC was in Chelmsford MA 5 days ago, scheduled for delivery today and it is only about 20 miles away. I've looked out the window so many times today my neighbors must think I'm crazy! I want it so bad I can taste it! How does carbon fiber taste anyway?

I had one of those pets once, but it kept peeving on my floor so I got rid of it..

I don't care for waiting for stuff to arrive either. Especially when a custom maker tells me it's gonna be here in June, then July, then August, then October. And each time delivery got extended, I found out only by emailing him monthly. It's not as if he's keeping me posted.

Another couple 'a pet peeves of my own:

1) Production folders with modern materials like G10 and 410 stainless liners, but with pinned frame construction (won't mention any names)

2) Production liner-locking folders with only the locking liner and no other liner (I don't care what you say, I don't trust just the handle material for structural integrity)

3) Great, great, great production folder designs that I get really crazy over and then find out they're monstrously large and unpocketable (no names/recent release, you know the one)

4) Parades

5) People thinking they're getting stuff for free when others have to pay for the same stuff

6) Long, drawn-out debates on lock strength when sheer strength is in reality a non-issue when you consider that many blades will break before the lock, and that long-term wear and reliability are bigger issues

Just to name a few since you brought it up

I don't like finding a hair in the mayonaise.

Kinives work great for getting them out.

My pet peeve...
the little notch that some makers put just before the edge actually starts, always seems to catch on things for me, a lot of other makers don't do this and so I wonder why some do and some don't....but it's just a pet peeve..

Other pet peeve?
When I call someone on the phone and they answer So&So Speaking... I know they are speaking so why tell me? So I always answer `Oh, sorry wasn't looking for So&S0 Speaking, but that is an interesting last name? is it Bulgarian?

Cheap knives, arrgghhhh! Hate'm, hate'm, hate'm! You all know the kind; loose guards, crappy handles, chrome looking blades, thick bevels, etc, etc. As the upcoming hunting season is rolling around, it never fails that a dozen people stop by to have their knives sharpened. Most have edges similar to a butter knife. So I toil away to put the best edge possible on these POS knives (which in most cases still resembles a sharpened butter knife

) knowing full well that it won't last long. I guess it is not so much just the knives that p*ss me off, but I just fail to understand the logic behind someone carrying a $700 rifle and a $10 knife. The real work begins after the deer is down, and most are amazed the first time they use a decent knife.

I hate the poor communications in some mail orders as well. You order a knife and get one of those auto-generated replies that "confirms" your order has been "received."

You state in the mssg section of your order (does anyone read those) that you want real confirmation that the knife is really in stock and will really be shipped in a couple of days, then .... NOTHING!!!

I think what some of these guys do is take your order (in car sales it's called taking the customer out or taking the cutomer out of the market, i.e. quit shopping) and then that dealer will run around and try to acquire the knife you ordered. You email these people and get no reply. They have the ability to take your credit card number, but no communications.

BTW I have tried 1stopknives several times without success. I like their price match policy and I want to support the forums, but they do not seem to answer their email inquiries on the last few knives I tried to buy from them.

Here's a pet peeve: I ordered some knives 12 days ago. I received a nonspecific automated response (i.e., no order #). I have not heard a thing since. My card has not been charged. No response to my emails. Phone is always busy. If I have to shop somewhere else I will, if I have to wait 8 more days for my knives to show up I will. But it bugs me not knowing which, so I'm a little peeved.

What ticks me off:

Stating on website that if the knife is listed it is in stock (when it isn't).

Phones that don't get answered.

My credit card gets charged (I can check on line immedietly) but I find out later the knife is NOT IN STOCK - bunch of C**P. Don't take my money if you don't have my knife.

Not telling me the knife is not in stock - can't stress that one enough!
