I recieved a few days ago my first REAL custom knife. It is a rough blade forged out of a piece of leaf-spring steel(5160). Over the course of the planning and ordering, Peter was very friendly, and responded to even my silliest e-mail questions quickly.

Now to the knife. It is a slicer by design, with an upswept tip. The edge was clay-tempered to a really neat double hamon. Although the handle is thin, the loop at the end gives a comfortable grip, and allows you to put two fingers through the knife to make sure it doesn't get away. The edge came very sharp, and I haven't had to use it enough to require re-sharpening. It came with a simple, but effective leather sheath, although I might be tempted to try something nicer looking.

All in all, it is a really great knife, and at the insane price of $35!($45 with sheath). If you're interested, Peter also makes some really nice short swords out of old motorcycle chain.

Aaron,
$35 you say? Wow. Neat design. I'm glad to hear that the handle is makes it useful. Your knife reminds me for some reason of those old colonial knives that I would see in Williamsburg. How long is the knife exactly? Do you plan on using this knife as a utility blade?

Thanks for posting the picture.

I actually got this one before Peter raised his prices(slightly), so it was $35with the sheath. The knife is about 9" long, with about 4" of that blade. I'm planning to use it as a general utility knife at SCA events, so it'll se it's share of use.

I'm going to try some cutting and general use tests with this in the next few days, anybody have any suggestions/requests?

I wonder how comfortable that handle will feel after half an hour of heavy cutting.
