One of my new students that lives down on Cape Cod in Mashpee call me Sunday. Happier than a pig in $hit. He was drive in Sandwich ( another town on the Cape) and ran across a estate sale. He pickup up two anvils a 80# and the P.R. that is marked with 1 2 12 on it, plus tongs and hammers for $100. One lucky LIl Muther.:D He said that the P.R. is around 180#??? Does anyone know what the 1 2 12 equates to????

IG, that's the weight of the anvil in english hundredweight. Here is a page with info on how to decode it.

That anvil should be exactly 180lbs.

Dang! lucky sob =D Well, now they've got a perfect travel/demo anvil and a shop anvil =) Now get him to post pics!

I always just remember that the first number is 112 lbs each, the 2nd number is 1/4 of 112 (28) and the last number is always less than 28 and is 'actual' pounds. The second number can never be more than 3, and the 3rd never more than 27

Thanks Deker:thumbup:
Justin it was Mike that was at our last HI that found them and he said the 80# is like brand new. He is not on line. He is bring me 20 feet of 8" pipe so I'll be making him a forge and making some to sell. ;) :D
