Peters' Heat Treating has been to several shows that I've seen, but I had never talked to them until this recent Blade Show. I have been looking for a commercial heat treater since I will soon have no access to 240V power, some of you may have seen my post looking for a salt pot heat treater. Anyway, Peters' Heat Treating does vacuum hardening, but it's not far off from the salt pots as far as quality, a clean surface, little distortion, etc. I was very impressed with the representatives from Peters', they knew their stuff, and had genuine excitement for heat treating. They said they would be very excited to work on a double quench heat treatment with me for grain refinement, as well as following my heat treatment as close as they can (though it will be modified to fit the vacuum hardening vs. the oil quenching I've been doing). I will be sending them a blade for heat treatment soon. Any of you guys have any experience with Peters' Heat Treating?

I'm not familiar with them but make sure you understand exactly what their equipment can do. Some vacuum furnaces do quench in oil for example....BTW what's the word with Sandvik at the show ?

They use a nitrogen quench. The two metallurgists from Sweden were very knowledgeable. They talked about the benefits of having very clean steel with a very small microstructure. They handed out a bunch of small samples of 13C26. They had photo micrographs of 154CM, 13C26, 19C27, CPm-154, S30V, and D2. They're looking into what the grain size of the 13C26 is, which I'm looking forward to.

Larrin, one of my buddies uses Peters exclusively and has been very satisfied. If you were in Atlanta last week, you may have seen the BlindHorse knives table.
Peters also do all the HT for Queen Cutlery, GE Knives and a bunch of others in this part of the country.
They are a pretty good outfit. bruce /birdogforge

I've been using them also. Great guys and EXCELLENT work! Brad Stallsmith has been very helpful. Good pricing also. Much better than Texas Knife and some of the others.
