Another thread degenerated into posting pictures of Pete's Custom 110's. How about we use this thread as a place to do this? I got a new one yesterday, two weeks earlier than expected, and have been trying to get a picture that does it justice, failing miserably. It's the middle knife in this picture:
k2.jpg

Checkered cherrywood scales, brass bolsters, and a champagne buckcote blade. This is probably the prettiest 110 I've ever seen; the cherrywood is richer than it appears here, and the champagne is a great match with the brass bolsters.

Other knives shown, top to bottom, are a standard 110; stag,NS with BG42; FG Asian Waterbuffalo scales, NS with damascus; and indigo royalwood FG, NS with BG42. Two 532's on either side.
Peace, Al

Hey Folsom- which 532 color do you like better the indigo or the walnut?

Don't know, don't have a walnut
wink.gif

That's a rosewood, though it looks a little dark in the picture. The indigo has a slight greenish tinge, and is not as pretty as the indigo 110. Best I can tell you...

What, nobody else has any pics?

I just recieved another from PCKS so I'll try to get some pics up soon. That is, if anyone wants to see them..

Love to see it!!

I'll bite, here's one I got about three weeks ago, it's intended as something extremely distinctive that will be hard to lose when camping with the scouts

About once a month or so, I either get depressed, or into my cups a bit, and decide I need another PCKS knife. That's not too bad, but for such a spur of the moment decision, it would be nice if the gratification were a little quicker! Running about 5 weeks now to get one. I have one I ordered on April 16, and haven't heard anything about it, and it takes a week shipping to the East Coast from El Cajon

I am not yet able to post any pictures of my PCKS 110s or 532s but hope to be able to do so soon.

I must second Al's concern about the time it is currently taking from the time an order is placed with PCKS and the time it is received, at least with respect to the latest knife I received. Last week I received a BG-42, NS with red checkered inlays that took seven weeks for delivery. In that case the order was lost (though I was charged for it) by the service used by PCKS for our online ordering. I then had to reorder it and I guess the second order was not put back in the original place it should have occupied in the PCKS production order. I must mention though that the other two that I ordered on the same date, 3/16/01 were shipped within the proper time frame on 4/18/01.

I currently have two knives on order in PCKS that I ordered on 4/17/01 and the other on 4/19/01 and wonder along with Al about when they will arrive, and I live in Palo Alto, CA and do not have Al's cross country shipment concern (though it does still take awhile).

However, when they do arrive I am always greatly pleased and forget about delivery delays and just admire my new knife.

Hey Wray-

You hit the nail on the head. The knives are always beautiful, but the wait, with no word, and no way to check, is excruciating, especially since no time whatsoever is wasted in charging your credit card!

I'm not sure, but I've been told that there is some sort of law that if you order something, and it is not to be delivered within 4 weeks, you must be notified and given the option of canceling the order. I mention this not as as a criticism of Buck or a suggestion, but just that 4 weeks seems like the accepted outside for delivery on an ordered item.

I noticed my last knife was NOT made by Dana, meaning that someone else is involved too, and perhaps more help is coming online. I hope that with the expansion of PCKS promised for the end of the month, the delay issue will be addressed also.

Peace, Al

Al,

My last couple of knives also were not made by Dana. I, too, hope that the order-delivery time will improve with the promised expansion of PCKS on June 1. I also am anxious to see what the added options will be.

As respects our (the editorial "our") anticipation of delivery of our PCKS knives, I think it was best described by my daughter once when I exhibited some exasperation at waiting for a PCKS delivery that ran a bit over my expectations. She said that I sounded like she and her brothers during the run-up to Christmas. I could only agree.

Smartaleck. I think she is wise beyond her years. Teenagers today are not supposed to be so accurately insightful.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that had to wait 5 weeks. It finally showed up two days ago, and it was ordered 4/2. (N/S, F/G, cherry wood, and damascus). I hope the wait was because PCKS has been so busy. Hopefully that means that Pete's is here for good.

Now that you guys mentioned it, I checked the certificate of authenticity and it was not made by Dana. That's ok I guess 'cause the quality was still very good.

Reading these posts make me wish i had the skill to make the knives myself! Personally, i think we should have your orders back in the mail to you after 2 weeks, maximum! I checked the orders wednesday and it looks like a few are flirting with a "more than 4 week" shipping time. This is simply not acceptable to me but it does show an improvement. I am mildly encouraged.
We do have another person making most of the knives now so that should help to.

Joe,
Thanks for responding to these posts. I feel better knowing that you are aware of these delivery times and are on top of it.
As always, thanks.

I am completely pleased with the service at Buck.
Call Colt, or Smith & WEsson, and get them to make a knife the way you want it.
Might also try Case or Benchmade and see what kind of response you get.
I asked Joe one time how many customers he deals with on an average day- he said he couldn't even guess.
Joe and Dana and the entire crew at Buck give superb service.
I even bought a knife directly from Chuck once while Joe was out of town and I couldn't stand to wait a couple of weeks.
This isn't a little tiny company with 7 customers to deal with. This is a HUGE company that distributes their products world-wide and STILL takes the time to deal one-on-one with any customer who asks for attention.
There are very few companies today who will take ANY time for a customer.
I only have a few of Pete's knives and I am very greatful that this service is offered at all.
Maybe think about things for a minute before bashing extraordinary service from a tremendous company, huh?

Hey Dave, Chill

There is no company, in any field, with as great a customer service as Buck, at least as far as I know. And trust me, I wouldn't be ordering the knives, if I didn't think they were great, and worth the wait. The people at my office (I'm a software consultant) think I'm strange, but there's always a 110 on my belt. We would all just like to see the procedures smoothed out a bit.

Darn, I started this thread because another, more serious, one degenerated into posting pictures. Looks like this one has gone the other way! How about some pics, guys?

Dave,
I agree entirely with all of the words of praise that you expressed for the customer support at Buck Knives and all of Buck Knives, Inc. as a company.

I can speak only for myself with certainty, but feel pretty safe speaking for the others also, in saying that no "bashing" whatsoever was intended in these posts about delivery times from PCKS.

I know that I personally will feel really badly if Joe and Buck knives feels that it was intended as such.

I, too, feel it to be a great privilege to have PCKS available to me. What I was expressing arose out of the keen expectation that I feel as the scheduled time of delivery starts coming up on the calender - overactive anticipation, perhaps - as I implied in my second post, like a kid waitng for Christmas. I want PCKS (and Buck Knives)to prosper and always be there.

Joe and all of the customer service staff (Shirley, Suzen and probably others whose names that I do not know) have provided me with unmatched assistance in every instance that I have had occasion to call upon them. They are always gracious and effective no matter what my concern may be. In every case their response has been over and above what I think I really deserve.

Jeff,

Great knives! Thanks for posting for us. Looks like you need to start considering displaying at some shows now!

Jeff: From your pics, it appears that the BG42 has a really nice finish to it. Did the Custom Shop do as good a job as it appears? thanks, rdog
p.s. looking for alternatives to photopoint and for my roll of film to be developed.

The pics do the knives no justice. All of the knives from PCKS are practically flawless. As for the BG-42 blades, they have the typical buck satin finish with very crisp grind lines. All came super sharp as to be expected.

Agreed. It's amazingly difficult to get a clean photo of these things. The best that has worked for me (see pictures above) was outside with no flash, on a cloudy day. Even then, the knives look much better than they do in the photos.

Peace, Al

Hey, that's a good idea Folsom. Maybe I'll give that a try if we ever have another cloudy day.
