Petition to Forum Moderators regarding "Deal Spotting"

Alexei, I think that all that is important is that deal spotting is not allowed, period. It isn't going to be allowed in the future. Spark gave the reason.

Interesting thread.

Is the Egyptian dagger for $6k Deal Spotting?
Can you can put an item and price together but not link to the sale or mention the dealer?

Asking seriously.

I assume you are referring to the Russian hunting knife. Links to ebay auctions are generally not allowed, but I have seen exceptions made when the thread is started to discuss the merits of the knife.

Many threads discuss pricing. If there is no advertising being done, there is nothing wrong with discussing the pricing of knives.

In the normal course of discussion people often post links to pictures and descriptions so other people can see what they're talking about. Sometimes people post things like "look what this fraudster on ebay is trying to pass off as a 19th century bowie -- LOL!" too.

Deal spotting is when you post "Buy this!!!! It's a bargain!!!one!!"

We have a whole forum in the Exchange for posting about deals and dealers, The Good, The Bad, The Ugly! That is the place to talk about deals and dealers, not the discussion forums.

Amaizing! ... It must be something with the way I am expressing myself, English not being my first language.

Or something with the way you read.... Let's try simple step-by-step directions.

STEP 1 Slide your mouse cursor up to the top of the page and onto Exchange and click it.

STEP 2 Slide it on down to The Good, The Bad, The Ugly! and click it. There you can find out where to find good deals on multi-tools.

STEP 3 If you still have difficulty finding the information you're looking for you can click the

button in that forum and ask.

Thanks, Cougar! I wish this post appeared much earlier, as it defines content of the deal spotting post. A couple of follow up questions, please: 1) Does a post in an existing thread fall uder this definition, or only a new thread? 2) Would it not make more sense to allow members (paying dealers being first priority) to report "deal spotting" posts they find "offensive" or "contrary to the interests of paying members". Would save moderators a whole lot of time, I think. Also will remove any peception of such deletion being arbitrary.
Thanks again.
Alexei

P.S. Just saw the last post by Cougar. Are you telling me that Deal Spotting IS allowed in Exchange... The Good The Bad... sub-forum? Sure looks like it. I did a search on Victorinox, got this post, unedited, undeleted:

Talk about misunderstanding!

Look at the dark bar at the top of each post. On the right, there are several icons. One of them is a triangle with an exclamation point. Any member can click the triangle for a post they feel is questionable in any way, reporting it to the moderators for action.

Yes, Esav, that was my point exactly. Let the offended users report the posts before deleting them.

Firther to my P.S., did more looking at The Good The Bad... Section. Good read:

So, again, sorry for waisting everyone's time. Now armed with this knowledge, I will know where to look and advise the members who can't help sharing the good deal with others, where to post.

I love this forum, but I must agree with the original poster, ufox9al, there does seem to be a bit more censorship than is needed. Sometimes it even feels like the moderators are sitting around watching like hawks each and every post or thread and just waiting to modify it or move it or deem it unnapropriate.

It also seems like if you don't agree with the majority then you are kinda treated like an outcast and ganged up on and then ultimately a moderator will step in and act accordingly with the majority. I mean, I saw a guy here get banned recently and the worst thing I saw him do was speak bad about Spyderco!

I just think a forum dealing with knives or guns should involve a tad more free will and a bit less censorship and regulation. As knife and firearm users, we already get enough of that from the outside.

You seem to be infering that the moderators censor folks who speak ill of knife manufacturers. If that is your intention, you are dead wrong. Multitudes of folks voice negative opinions of all manufacturers/makers on this forum without getting banned. Regarding Spyderco specifically, there is a long term member who has almost made a career of speaking ill of Spyderco. He has done so for years, yet remains.

I am sorry you are unable to discern the difference between the multitudes who speak of the negatives of manufacturer X and the generality you mentioned.

I love this forum,

If you love it, why don't you show it by getting a paying membership? Most of the gripes and complaints I have seen on this thread have come from those that want to use the forum and learn from it, but fail to support it. Remember this: Sparks' House=Sparks' Rules and if you do not like the way it is run, you don't have to be here. You are free to not to come back.

Just my opinion,
James

If you click on a member's name and then choose "find all posts by" you can see all his posts with the most recent listed first, and you can see for yourself why a banned member was banned. The monthly Plank Log in this forum is a resource, too. Nothing is done in the dark here; you can see for yourself what's going on and why if you look.

But where is the fun in that when one can very easily just make assumptions instead?

Don't censor me! :grumpy:  Please don't ban me nice mr. moderator man!

actually, I figure this post is probably too frivolous to really have a place in S & S but seeing how this whole thread is so silly...well, I guess I figure a little more couldn't hurt.

Cite. I'll bet you $100 that his real reason for being banned wasn't just "speaking bad about Spyderco"

Amaizing! I asked a simple question (twice), and in so many posts, this is the closest I got to an answer. It must be something with the way I am expressing myself, English not being my first language.
Your English seems to be pretty good; the bitter sarcasm and condescending attitude you wish to convey is getting through loud and clear.
