Petitions for a ZDP189 ParaMilitary with Titanium Framelock.

I assume the OP was thinking of a compression "framelock" like the Salsa TI and the TI ATR...problem is, unless Sal has something up his sleeve, no tooling on hand for that...

And in the spirit of the recent debate, I'll bet you $10K that the existing steel comp lock is stronger :D thought definitely less kewl.

I don't understand the desire for a frame lock. The compression lock is a huge step forward in lock design and to go to a frame lock would cheapen the knife. Plus I'm not a big fan of metal handles. I would rather have the standard CF or G10 or linen micarta for a change of pace.

++++1:)

Explain to me why you would want a framelock para 2? As if there aren't enough options out there already for a S30V titanium framelock. Spyderco alone has half a dozen of them to choose from!

People always want to change the designs which made the knife legendary to begin with. I don't understand it.

They've done compression framelocks before. This is what the OP is talking about

That's an ATR. Good luck finding one.

He has posted a few times and never mentioned a compression lock, just a frame lock. I don't think that is what he is talking about, and if it is he has been very unclear.

I want a compression frame lock Para 2. I don't care what steel they use for the blade nor do I care if it's stainless steel like the ATR or titanium like the Salsa. I believe that it will happen someday.

I'd much rather keep the comp lock than have Spyderco spend (waste IMO) time redesigning a killer hit and great seller. Spend that time on new hits! The comp lock seems stronger, less expensive, and lighter.

And I agree with other steels over ZDP. ZDP is good stuff, but it sounds tough to get it in a US model, and I've been having too much fun with trying to dull my 20CP.

And as interesting as the ti comp lock looks, I still have no desire. Less money, less weight, and much more useful handles with the available Paras in CF and G10. Have fun with those ti handles this winter! :p

Titanium integral compression lock. G-10 slab one side (or carbon fiber), titanium lock side slab.
The ATR did it (except for the G-10 side, although I saw some modded like that), and it was amazing. My dad is an AXIS lock disciple generally, but he was really, really impressed by the reliability and strength of the design.
Make it and they will sell.:)

You're coming off like a Luddite. A Para 2 Integral Compression Lock will be a good thing. :D :p

The Tuff was supposed to be such a beast. I bet a Para 2 ICL would do as well or better than the Military RIL has done. I know I'd pay $220 for one.

You gotta admit that even if you don't want one, it would be a "new hit."

Current compression lock on the Para is great. My favorite lock. I would not be interested in anything different on this knife.
No interest in ZDP189 either.

I still disagree. The bottom line in my eyes is that a Para 2 with the G10/regular comp lock is still lighter, stronger, and cheaper than a frame lock, like the OP stated.

Sure, the ti comp lock does seem interesting, and it seems like Spyderco hasn't produced one in years. I still like the light weight and G10 scales. And despite Stabman being a Canuck and surely having a fair bit of cold knowledge, I remove my gloves while cleaning small game or very delicate tasks while out in the cold. Titanium is great stuff, but I like G10 for the sheer utility. Not trying to make anyone uppity, just my opinion on a question.

And if I was coming off like a Luddite, I'd be hurling rocks at the Spydie factory in Golden, CO while replying to your post by inscribing a stone tablet :p

+3 on that. The RIL on the Millie seems a smoother transition given it's generic liner lock but to move away from an extraordinary, exclusive compression lock on a Para is a step backwards. I am also not a fan of metallic scales due to slipperiness, weight and cold. I like grip, light and color!

Voice out ur desire for this baby....

Not from me. I see no benefit to titanium over G10 with nested liners and I have no desire to see the Para's comp lock moved to a framelock version. That's been done in a couple of other models. Also, I personally don't care much for ZDP189 for a mid-sized EDC blade. It's more difficult for me to work with than S30V, VG10, 154CM, or D2. Admittedly that's my problem and not the steel's, but it would certainly keep me from dropping any $ on a Para with ZDP189.
