Phase one of my new direction is complete.

They are made in a production facility by machines and many different hands. Rick and Chris never touch the knives.

Howcome I have heard them called customs before, then? (I'm not saying you're wrong here, I would just like some more info :) )

probably because people confuse price with customs...

Exactly. Some people try to call knives like Hinderer, CRK, Strider, Microtech etc mid techs but that's also incorrect. They are all production knives. So are Olamics and Begg knives to a certain extant.

Let me steer this back on track before it becomes a "what's the difference between production, mid-tech and custom" debate. I understand exactly where you are coming from on the collection. I have been whittling down my collection over the past month leaving only the ones I 100% carry. I can't afford to make the leap into customs, so my short list consists of a Seb 25 and a TSF Beast. It's a given that I will pick up the 392 and 562 as well.

to the OP, i think we share the same tastes, i have slimmed down my collection as well and have 3 out of the 4 knives in your picture, and our xm's are identical (mine is a no logo 20cv but i will probably sell because i like my 3.5 better and have to fork up the money in sept for my kwaiback midtech). just a question. have you tried any of the lionsteel designs? im hearing good things about their knives, they havent been around as long as crk or hinderer but i hear they have a pretty damn good production line

I have handled them at Blade. I looked into getting the tispine and they are nice but I much prefer my Michael Raymond Estrella for an integral. They make good stuff, I'm just more of a USA made guy personally. Mainly cause I don't want to send stuff back to Italy if there are any issues.

Why the non flipper xm-18. I think the flipper adds to the function and looks,. But my 3" is a warnnie, the 3" slicer I had didn't have the appeal. The 3.5" slicer has better looks I think. I like the insigno blade on CRK's better too.

I don't see the point of the flipper on a Hinderer when they open so quickly with thumb studs. I think they look better without one as well personally.

Well, we both agree on the color any way. My hinderer right now (since it is newer) is my favorite knife, it is beating out my 777 right now. Dont know if that will hold true for the long run though.

Especially when hinderer's are pretty medicorce flippers to begin with....
