Pheasant, Chukar, Deer, Guns and KNIVES

Thanks, Roger.......thanks for letting us in on the great time you all had!

Some really great pictures of those birds in flight....

I can't think of a better way to spend a three day weekend. The first picture of that field brought back some great memories of pheasant hunting as a kid. Boots and pants being soaked from the morning dew on the grass. Getting back to the truck cleaning the birds on the tailgate and a hot cocoa from a seperate thermos that dad had brought. I haven't been pheasant hunting in 20+ years. Quail are my bird of choice now simply because that's what we have up here. Man they taste great de-boned fried up in a skillet with butter, salt, pepper and garlic.

So Roger, it sounds like your hooked on bird hunting. Have you ordered your new shotgun yet?;)

Good read!

Thanks much for sharing this, Roger.

Best Regards,

Thanks to all for your comments - I have enjoyed reading them.

Stabber – extra cool bird dog.

David – yes, this was my first time. I had shot a few different types of guns on a previous trip to Dan’s camp – but this was my first time with a shotgun and the first time shooting at something that mattered.

Matt – you’re right – we eat a little too well - I could hardly move after a few platefuls of Chukar Parmigiana. May it always be just that way.

Mike – I’m looking into it. I need to figure out how much hassle would be involved taking a firearm back and forth across the border. But I’d still like to get one and find somewhere to shoot up here in order to get more proficient. Haven't broken it to my wife yet, though. :o

Bruce – a handful more pics for you:

I am a bit jealous. You guys were having way too much fun.

I would like to say that the photos are first class. Might I ask what type of camera was used?

Thanks for sharing your adventure.

Robert

Wingshooting and deer hunting- it doesn't get much better, for sure.

Good weather, locale and comraderie, plus plenty of sport and knife work. Had to be a wonderful weekend.

Great report on a great weekend. I miss hunting with bird dogs. I always had a setter or Brittany until we lost our quail population here in Southern Missouri. It is hard to find enough wild quail to hunt anymore. Preserve hunts can be lots of fun, and enjoyed you sharing yours.

Nikon D60 with an 18-200mm lens... lens works really well in high light like these were taken in, not so good otherwise. Without it, these shots would likely not have worked out as well as they did - never knew how much or how little I'd need until it happened.

Thanks Matt....... I have about decided that regardless of the camera, the glass makes the difference. Great Shots.

Thanks for sharing- that is absolutely wonderful. Scoring on your first shot is awesome.

It looks like a fantastic trip.

Roger, This is a great story and Matt done a very good job on the photos. Capturing the whole story in a photo is a tough job. I enjoyed this so much. Thanks, Lin
