Hi everyone. This is my first post, many more to come I'm sure. I'm pretty new to knife making and love it. I recently got a Pheer 454, my first 2x72 grinder. I put it all together and slapped a belt onto it, only to find the belt was wobbling about 1/8. I saw Jose's videos on wobble and figured it could be the belt I was using (the one that was packed with the grinder). Put a new Blaze same issue. I could hear a rhythmic sound thumping as the belt went around. Tried a Cubitron belt, same story. My drive wheel is the recommended distance from the frame. Any thoughts on what the issue is?

Thanks for any help.

You need more tension. Take off the belt, loosen the tooling arm, pull it a few inches forward, lock it down and try again.

Wobbly tracking is typically one of three things, one of which you've already seemed to rule out:
1) worn or stretched belts
2) insufficient tension on the belt
3) misaligned, off center wheels

Tension is the most common cause. Try putting your belt on, then pull the tool arm out while compressing the spring, and then tighten your locking handle. This will give you the maximum amount of tension on your belt, and should solve your problem. If not, check that all of your wheels are centered on the same plane.

"Centering" wheels keep in mind that often wheels are not the same width, so you literally must use the center as a reference.

Give it enough speed as well. I got the same grinder .

Good to know. Thank you for that little bit of knowledge. When I was making sure everything was secure on the grinder and on the bolts that anchor the grinder to my work bench, I noticed that the adjustable aluminum arm that holds the flat platen/two front wheels had some vertical movement. I tightened the hand screw as much as I could, and try as I might, it still had some vertical wiggle to it. It doesn't seem to move when there's a belt on it or when it's on, but I figured I'd see if other people noticed this about the 454.

I'm sure whatever is wrong here is my error, not Jose's. He does kind of do this for a living and all. Thanks everyone for your input. I really wasn't expecting all of these responses. This forum is where it's at!

Cheers. Happy 4th. Stay safe.

Just a quick update: Like you all said, my belt wasn't tight enough. There was a significant improvement on the wobble.
