Here is a typical sequence of the traditional metal carving, or we say metal chasing & repousse.

I think this is more easy for some lover, learner to follow the simple pattern.

Yes, im wrong, after met Phil on the icarver forum and talked. i got it. the great artist Phil, also used the chisels and hammer. thanks very much info.


Your carving looks very good, but I was wondering what do you mean by "chinese traditional metal carving method"? What is the difference between "western", if there is something like that, and Chinese methods?

As I can see from the photos, you are also using hammer and chisel. But so does Phil for all of his carving/sculpting work...

Repoussé means you are hamering the metal out from the back to gain more depth. if this is what you are doing a picture of the back side would help people to understand.

i have not seen chasing and Repoussé combined with metal carving, very interesting.

great work engraveing is a beautifull form of art I tryed for three years and ended up giveing up no talent.
