Philippines, liberated Khukuri

The Khukuri in question is 16 1/2" long as measured through a glass case. I wanted her to bring it in so I could weight it, but alas, the display case is mounted on a wall and sealed.

Hi there vcbvcbvcb,

Just thought I'd chime in. The kukri type you have shown is one of the more common privately purchased kukri of the WWII (and post) era. They were made in India but I'm not sure exactly where. It would most likely have been owned by a member of the allied forces originally. It seems that many troops decided to add a kukri to their kit once they arrived in India, ready to get involved somewhere in the CBI theater. It could well have been captured by the Japanese before being liberated by allies down the line, but it would not have started it's life with the Japanese forces, that's for sure.

Here are a few more kukri of this type, showing some of the variety within the style: http://www.ikrhs.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=832

This one looks very similar to the one i got from Dirtbiker:

Thanks for the offer Spiral. I'm kind of stubborn and wanted to figure it out for future posts, however I didn't. I was just about to accept your kind offer when the pic appeared.

Cheers!

Silverjohns spot on....

I believe these were made ww2 era & also around & after Indian independence. 1947 } I think possibly in the Calcutta region, due to quality & style of Workmanship.
