Phillip Dobson Emerson CQC-7 Regrind.

I guess I stand corrected. There is a knife or maybe two with Phillip Dobson stamped in the blade. Nice looking knife too! Thanks for posting Phill!

Anyway here is the handle Phillip placed on my Izula. I know I know I've posted it a number of times, but I never get tired of looking at it. I believe the wood was Ebony, and my picture below just doesn't do it justice.

Normally I am not fond of 're-ground' blades, but in this case I must make an exception. The mods are exemplary!

Right now there are only two blades marked with my name. My logo stencil just arrived last week. There are maybe ten other knives that I've made over the past couple of years, but they're unmarked.

And yes, your Izula handle is Asian ebony. I remember that knife well. It was the one that sliced my thumb open right before the second ice climb of the season.

Phil does nice contouring with CF. I like!

Now who wants to get me some of this new CF I've been drooling over?

This is what Chuck Bybee has to say about this new material:

"Todd Begg was the first knifemaker to use this material. He is the person who coined the name and is the only knifemaker who has had access to the material for four years. This carbon fiber is different because it contains tiny (.0025") randomly spaced bronze filaments within a checkerboard carbon fiber pattern. When sanding the CF the filaments are exposed creating tiny shiny dots and streaks. The CF was developed for use in the new Boeing 787. Boeing's pays $700 per pound for LSCF."

I hear it was developed to shield the plane from lightning strikes, hence the name "Lightning Strike Carbon Fiber". It's hard to justify the price, though.

I'm seriously considering it for that Mini Rukus I emailed you about (did you ever get that email?)...any pics?

mqqn - be sure to bring that to our gathering in September.

Hi Stomper -

I'll have it there.

Thanks to all for the comments. I'll bet Phillip does a few more of these.

best regards -
