Well, God couldn't take away what He'd given them; taking away another person's freewill is the one unforgiveable sin, a guaranteed ticket to damnation. So God had to create Hell as a prison (a very imperfect prison).
It's like that with us: one makes a terrible mistake, can't undo it, just has to patch it somehow and move on. We who are made in God's image should not find this surprising... or think we can do better. And that is why God, though not omniscient or omnipotent, is all-forgiving. Because He Himself has need of forgiveness. We are of him, he is of us, inextricably.
Therefore when you undertake to call out the name 'fool', look carefully at where your finger is pointing.
