hey guys,

i am years maybe decades away from needing or being able to afford one of these but i was curious as to what your thoughts are on this hammer. it looks nice the videos are cool..... but i dont have a clue!

here is the web site

http://phoenixhammer.com/

NICE looking hammers

I would da*n near give my eye teeth for a good hammer or press right now :grumpy: :grumpy:

;)

Seem like there was some controversy about this hammer or the builder a few years ago, can't remember the details.

I would rather have a Little Giant....and do :D

Their after sales input is near zero , as I understand it.
I saw one demoed several yrs ago and it was indeed awesome.
Don, I feel the same way about my Fairbanks :-)

i used one for awhile... very nice control... and long stroke... so you can use alot of tooling

...but ... i've read alot of the forums about the lack of service and funny business...

just me... but if i were to get one i'd pay and pick up at same time

but my beaudry/stockwell hammer is all i need :D

If you like the features and control of the Phoenix, look at the Iron Kiss. I know I'm sounding like a broken record here, but the Iron Kiss is the only hammer I know of that does some of the more interesting stuff like clamping, etc that the Phoenix does. After-sales support with the Iron Kiss is MUCH better for sure. Also, John Larson who makes the Iron Kiss has some other proprietary improvements that make it nicer than the Phoenix IMHO.

The ironkiss is also very similar AFAIK to the pheonix as far as anvil and frame construction, and as Deker said the features involved. I saw a pheonix up close at Peter's Valley, sadly though it is not running. Anyone who has ever seen one run or ran one has said it was one of or the best hardest hitting with the most control hammer they had ever used. The original owner I hear was screwed out of the entire business and assets by a partner, which is why there is no support or return of emails or what have you.

IIRC what is now the Phoenix forging hammer used to be the "Bull Hammer". The original designer/owner had some issues with a business partner and then the Phoenix hammers came into being. They're pretty much identical to the Bull hammer from what I can tell after seeing a Bull hammer at Wulf's shop.

P.S. Yes Don, I *DO* like the Iron Kiss :D

I thought it had happened after the transition from Bull to phoenix, which is again why the phoenix hammers are unavailable and service/support/contact is nil, maybe not though.
