Off over in Corn Patch sits a little blacksmith shop out behind the house. A drawing came in the mail one day and I was asked to make a 17" blade called a Franken Bowie. Well, it's coming out lean, long, and sorta pretty. Still must finish the guard for it. I hope Alan will like it when Bawanna gets done with the scales. Here is a copy of Alan's drawing and a photo of the poor side of the blade for your consideration.

Holy crap, that Damascus looks awesome. Please post pics of the final work when it's done. I'm intrigued.

VERY nice work Sir! Loven' the pattern. You gonna' sharpen that swedge? How long will it be OA?

That'll be up to Alan & Bawanna, Buck. I almost forgot. The spine is decorated with little Xs and Os.

Not going to sharpen it, Tim. That will be up to Alan--I just don't wish to ruin the blade's finish. It'll be a hair over 17 inches. Maybe up to 18.

Bookie - you never cease to amaze me with your skill.

All I can say, is nothing, because I'm just speechless.

I got that global warning brain sweats mentioned in another thread.

That's drop dead gorgeous. Hope I don't screw it up. Hold me mommy, I'm skeered.

Hi Bookie,
let me put you mind at ease as to "I hope Alan will like it when Bawanna gets done with the scales ". Alan is already crazy in love with the blade. And Bawanna, I have held in my own hands samples of your impeccable craftmanship, I'm not worried in the least.

Now that is impressive! Awesome piece of pattern weld! I said "pattern weld" bawanna! Its not from Syria. Yall should send that down to Texas for a while so I can christen it an "official" Bowie! Cant be a Bowie unless you dip it in the Rio Grande River....er maybe the Brazos. Heck id even carry it to the Alamo for ya! Anywaz. Just dreamin...nice try dog;) That is a cool pattern.

Looking forward to seeing the final result. Would'nt mind owning one of those with a different handle shape and about an inch shorter!

But, but, but, bowies are illegal in Texas........I didn't think anything was illegal in Texas but of all the things in the whole wide world they outlaw Bowies. How sad is that.

I hate to be a rain cloud on your parade but I wouldn't want to send you a hacksaw blade in a cake in the big house ya know?

Ha! Your right. I forgot about that stupid law! Well as many Bowies as I have you might better start that tunnel in Mexico and dont forget the rail system so I can slip them bowies out on one rail cart. I think theres a bunch of unemployed miners that helped El Chapo escape that prolly need jobs. C'mon man! Help a brother out!

Texas Penal Code 46.02 outlaws the CARRYING of a Bowie Knife on one's person. However TPC 46.15 (6) exempts CHL holders. Not sure I would want to be the one to put that little gem to the test. I guess it depends on the judge.

Bac Si, that blade gave me flashbacks... look at the pattern and think what you were wearing about 1965 in the jungle...or weren't you Razorbacks issued Tiger stripes? Maybe they decided Hogs and tigers shouldn't mix :D Seriously though. That is already incredibly beautiful and I know the guard and Bawanna's work will just guild the lily.

HMMMM? Wth? I guess I better go check that out. I havent seen that! I wonder if the length is still 5 1/2"? Id love to EDC my GCB:D

Dai uy, thanks for the kind words. Have you ever heard the old song Run Through the Jungle? You gotta run through the jungle when you're nekkid! Who needed clothes back then when you were 20-21 years old??:D

The length is still 5.5 (to carry), but then 46.15 apparently exempts CHL holders from 46.02 restrictions which include 5.5 length constraints.
