I'm still scrounging pennies up, but that Carbon Fiber ZDP Stretch is a pricey
rascal :)

I've heard good things about the FRN, but would like to see a side by side photo, showing a shot down on the back of the handles.

Also if some one can get a shot of the edge thickness that'd be keen ;)

Thanks in advance guys/gals,
G2

I have no clue as to how one would show edge thickness in a photo. More FRN Stretch photos HERE.

Nice Paul! thanks greatly, may have to go the FRN version for now

Here is a shot taken of my Lonewolf City Knife, which shows how finely ground down
the edge is, what I was looking for is how thick the blade is at the shoulders of the edge bevels...

Again, much thanks!

edited to add, probably the real question is, between the two, which do you favour?
and do you feel that one has a thinner edge than the other?

here is the shot of the Fallkniven U2 folder, quite a THIN edge on this rascal !

and the Benchmade Ruckus, a THICK blade but ground down fairly thin

I don't have a set of calipers with me but I can tell you the frn stretch's thickness at the edge bevels are noticeably thicker than my CF Caly 3 and only slightly thinner than my D2 Para.

Deacon, you are like Batman on these forums, always willing to help. I gotta know, do you still wear that shirt in the photo?:D

Thanks Jimbo, from Paul's shots, around that apple, that seems keen enough for me
and I figure I'll probably end up with both eventually, but, right now I can only afford
the FRN one, plus I do like the looks of the handle better, looks a bit more grip friendly
to me as well?

Just got the confirmation from my local Pharmacy, knife is enroute ;) Will report back
when she arrives, probably on Monday.

Is the stretch FRN the same handle thickness as an Endra 4? I was going to buy a plain edge endra 4 but I've read so many good reviews on the stretch FRN.

Gary, I don't think you will be disappointed with the FRN Stretch it is the most comfortable Spyderco I have got, definitely Sal's best ergos to date(of my collection) and it slices extremely well(after re-profile).

I can sum it up by saying it along with my Caly 3 are the only Spydercos that I feel haven't needed some modification.

Love that Pharmacy, they just now shipped off my s90v Manix 2.

Enjoy!

My Stretch 2 CF had a .019" edge, compared to .012" on my Caly 3 CF. I'm guessing the Stretch 2 FRNs will be similar to the Stretch 2 CF in edge thickness. It is fairly thin, but not U2 thin for sure. Closer to the Rukus thickness when comparing it to the Rukus I had, though the overall blade thickness of the Stretch 2 is much thinner than the Rukus allowing it to cut much better.

Thanks Jim and Mike, looking forward to it, right now I've no knife to clip in my pocket :(
I'm forlorn so to speak :) as I usually carry several knives, each having it's own charm
and duty. But I can only wear so many sheaths at a time, so I do rely on one clipped
to my pocket.

I loved the Military, but found it's blade length just a tad too long for my EDC chores
still, I may end up getting an orange one, but it all takes money ;)

Wow looks like the frn version is quite a bit thicker than the CF version.

Is the new new stretch in frn supposed to be thinner of is that it?

It's not all that much thicker, thicker then a Pacific Salt, but still very thin compared to some other knives.

Yes, it's a bit thicker than the CF version. For some, that's a plus, since it does make the knife more comfortable in the hand, especially if you're cutting with it for a while. For others, it's a negative. Nothing pleases everyone. I can tell you that the day I wound up spending half an hour or so hacking through vines and small branches, I was very glad I'd chosen to carry the FRN rather than the CF.

The CF Stretch II is one of the thinnest large folders Spyderco makes and, to put things in a bit of perspective, the FRN version is a hair thinner than the Military and not quite half the thickness of a Buck 110. So when comparing the two versions of the Stretch II we're not talking thick vs thin, but rather slim vs the damn near anorexic "super model" look. :D

Jimbo75, yep, managed not to slash it up during that photo session. Love my tie-dye t-shirts, have perhaps a dozen. :o :D

Thanks Deacon, can't wait for it to arrive, looks to be quite handy
blade length plus handle contours.

Anyone else more excited about this knife than the manix 2? I kind of am.
I definitely am.

I've been a Stretch fan since the first ones came out. I liked the design enough to think it deserved better handle material than SS with relatively fragile Kraton inlays. Liked it enough to have several of them customized. Best of those being the Lignum Vitae over ti liners one STR did up for me. CF Stretch II was a huge improvement over the SS/Kraton, its only downside was the price tag and, for prolonged cutting, its thinness, although for back pocket carry by a desk jockey, that thinness has its upside too. ;) The FRN version is about the same thickness as my Lignum Vitae one, a bit lighter, and the price should encourage a lot more people to try it. All in all, a very exciting knife. Could it be further improved, sure. I'd love to see a "dent free" version with a 2.5mm, or better yet 2mm, blade and a slightly deeper choil.

On the other hand, I was never a fan of the Manix, either full size or Mini and don't seem to belong to the target metric for this version either. :o I think 4mm blades should be reserved for hatchets, so I have to consider even a mere .5mm thinner one an improvement, but aside from the price I don't see any of the other differences between the Manix II and Mini-Manix as improvements. It's still heavy, over 50% heavier than the FRN Stretch II. It's still bulky, 1/4" less blade and 1/2" more handle than the Stretch II. It's grown that enormous,:confused: inspiring, and extremely unattractive lanyard hole and the equally unappealing "bling" effect the jimped liners create. It's tip up only, another :thumbdn: for me. It's given up the lock I prefer in favor of one I have less confidence in and find more difficult to operate. It may be "stronger", but for any task where the strength of the original C101, or the FRN Stretch for that matter, would be of concern to me, I'd opt for the total peace of mind only a FB integral can provide instead.

I've watched a few youtube thingys about it and the consensus does seem to follow
your way of thinking Paul ! The one guy, a dealer, even goes as far as stating that
this may be THE knife, ending up never to have to buy another one, well my family
would support that for sure ;) I always get the rolled eyes and shaking heads when
the NEXT knife arrives and I'm all googley over it, of course for most of us on this forum
there may very well never be THE knife in our life time, which isn't a bad thing :)
just a different thing. As one close friend always tells me "you just like getting packages
in the mail ! " and he may be onto something there! Hopefully there will be one arriving
in todays mail, fingers are crossed!
