I am completely infatuated with my 710 and think a 705 with G10 handles may also be a must have knife for me. Would someone be kind enough to post a picture of a 710 and 705 side by side?? Thanks gw

Thanks Steve!! Exactly what I need to see. I think I'm going to have to find one and pocket carry it without a clip. Did BM make one in the G10 and D2?

I'm pretty sure that the D2 variants all had metal handle with inlays, not G10.

I was guessing that. I'm all good with ATS-34.

Steve, how do you like the 705? Do you find it small? I'm asking because I'm so used to the 710. Anyway, I'm interested in your thoughts since you have both. Thanks again. gw

All the knives in bottom row are 705's. Only those with inlays have D2 blades.

I do find it a little small as it lacks a thumb ramp. My thumb usually ends up sitting on the intersection of the blade and thumb studs.

The later versions were 154CM and both of mine (705 and 705-401) use it.

The 705 was a great little knife - it's a shame Benchmade discontinued it.

I always thought the 705 was a little thick for its size. The 705-401 was my first axis lock. I do appreciate it's size and carry it occasionally, but i think the 707 perfected the 705 shortfalls as far as blade real estate and thickness are concerned.

On a side note, i did have to purchase another 705 with ATS-34 on the secondary market for my girlie as she thinks its perfect for her.

I know what you mean about the thickness. The blade shape of the 707 (which is almost like a Ritter Grip - it has a deeper belly) is considered by some to be better (the same way that some prefer the "regular" CRK Sebenza blade to the Classic/21 blade). And, the 707 is thinner, so better for IWB and maybe pocket carry.

Still, I have two of the 705s (ATS-34 PE and CPM154 PE BK) and would not sell them.

Dam I had never heard of the 705, must have been living in a cave all that time. Well I did walk away from knifes for a bit because they just didn't inspire me through the 90s, but I got back into it last year and bought a 710 and love it. Just ordered a 556 because I wanted something a little smaller, but if I had known about the 705 I would have been on a hunt for one and may still be. that is one the should bring back in my opinion.

I have a 710 and a 705, the 705 has been my EDC for over 8 years. I made a replacement blade for it because the original one got pretty short and thick-edged from use. The knife is a little thick in the body for it's size but to make it thinner would make it less useable IMO so I think it is a good trade-off in size.
I bought a second one which I gave to my wife for X-mas years ago, she has never carried it or really even used it, and currently it is lost :grumpy:
Whenever it turns up, I might have to appropriate it to see that it dosen't go to waste...

You could just send to me, I promise to give it a loving home:D

cool. are these custom or did Benchmade do a bunch of sprint runs that I never heard of? how long ago did you pick these up?

i like the clear aluminum with the wood inlay; very nice. that is not in the bottom row. what is it?

why did BM discontinue the 705 for the 707?

They are not custom, all are production and LE's BMs. I got 'em all within last few years, but they've been out of production a lot longer.
The one you're asking about is a 707-702 with S30V blade.
Why they discontinue it? I don't know, probably because of bad sales :)
