Photo request: RMD vs. BATAC

Well!!! I certainly didn't need to hear that honest opinion to muddy my preconceived notions!

I am currently trying to decide whether I need to try the BATAC, or try to buy a backup to my BGSFNO, of which I am quite impressed. But considering the BGSFNO is a hunk of quarter-inch thick SR-101 in a saber grind.... is a backup to my BGSFNO warranted at all?!!???

All that with the thought in the back of my head that two is one, one is none!

I am so conflicted....!

I have both and I didn't want to like or keep my BATACs but they feel much better than my Infidu. Enough for me to really think about letting the Infidu go.

I have both in the INFI versions, and can say its a real hard toss up. The Ratmandu is great in hand, balanced very well and just a great looking knife. Now the BATAC I feel is one knife you need to hold to appreciate. At first look to me it just looks like too much handle for that size blade. But once in hand it just works and I feel it's just a great knife, just my .02 worth.

I haven't handled a DU of any flavor but after handling the BGBATAC, as good as it does feel I still feel like I'd have to use the choil to choke up on it for fine work and I really don't like having to choke up on a blade that short. But I think my SOB may have spoiled me on that aspect. Just love that knife. It may be shorter in overall length but all of its length is very useable for me.

The only thing that has always turned me off the SOB is it LOOKS like it would be awkward in the hand because of how "fat" the belly of the handle/grip is. But apparently that isn't a problem, as popular as they seem to be.

Here you go. I'm sitting here laughing because I really just wanted these batacs to get here so I could unload them. Then I got them and I figured I'll keep one. They are nice enough, I don't think I'll sell either soon

I've had both and while the BATAC feels rock solid in hand (more so than the Infidu), I found the Infidu to be more useful and practical to work with. The TAC handle on the BATAC is great (love it on the SJTAC too) but the blade is pretty tall, while the blade of the Infidu is less tall and easier to maneuver for typical cutting tasks.

LMAO ^^^ ...That happens! :D
Reminds of the Hell Razor variants, the Nuke HR, and the Bowie HR... Went for 2 Nukes to keep, and one Bowie to flip. Well, the Nukes are long gone, sold several years later...but the Bowie HR is still here! :)

BATAC's grow on ya. One of my favorites.

If it weren't for the angular butt of the BATAC, I'd have one. That's really the only thing deterring me - I know it wouldn't have a negative impact, functionally, I just don't like it.

Luke's photos above did it for me. I wanted one, then I didn't want one (thinking the same thing as before, it really doesn't do anything different from my 'mandus. But it is a nice looking blade, a little more robust than the 'mandu due to its width, and I think I could like one in my stable.

DAMN! my discipline sucks!

I had a 'du but didn't like the handle. I think this is going to be the perfect fit for me. I'm got one coming. I think it's the perfect 1 knife to do it all. Smaller and lighter than an Ash but more robust than a SOB.

I had a regular Ratmandu and I have a Blade Show or Ganzaa version of the BATAC with the tequila scales. Blade thickness is about 0.22". I like it a great deal better than the Ratmandu so the Rat went away. My BATAC reminds me somewhat of a smaller scale SFNO. I do wish the scales were thicker. Eventually I'll probably thicken them up with liners.

I LOVE my SOB, and would probably take it over my RMD nine out of ten times. It fills the hand so much better than the RMD does. That belly really does make all the difference, and while it might look odd in photos, as soon as you get it in hand you'll understand.

I'm starting to realise that I really don't like those overly tall blades like the BATAC, especially on the shorter knives. On a chopper, great, but on something to be used for day to day chores at home, around camp or out bush something around the SOB/RMD height is plenty.
