Does anyone have any well loved sebs with plain TI scales and a damascus blade?

I have been eyeing one and am curious how they age aesthetically with this set up.

Thanks

I have a Large 21 Basketweave with plain titanium handles, but it's not showing much wear yet. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, and hopefully I'll have a chance to take/post up a picture.

Great idea for this thread! I look forward to seeing some well-loved knives of this combo.

I think this may the next one that gets checked off of my list, when the funds are available. I have a puukko being made in Finland so I need to pay that off first.

I am curious of how the plain titanium looks with snail trails and character in contrast to the damascus. I love the look of used plain janes, but I have never seen a well used plain with Damascus and my googling skills are weak on this one.

KBA, I agree with you completely. I LOVE the combo of plain jane Sebbies and Damascus blades. I also am planning to get one at some point.

And I also love the look of well-used/well-loved knives.

So, it looks like, if get one, I will be the only person using one.:D

That kind of makes me want one even more.

Is it that these just aren't that popular or does no one use them once they get one?

I think it might be more so that when someone steps up and pays the extra ~$200 for a damascus Sebenza they usually want more than just plain blasted titanium handles, though there's nothing wrong with them.

I bet there are probably just as many owners that use their CRK damascus blades as there are that keep the knives as safe queens. I haven't used Devin Thomas damascus yet but from what I have heard, it's comparable to S30V and a friend of mine was telling me this morning that he prefers DT damascus over regular S35VN blades for actual use and sharpening.

I have my first damascus on the way actually but it's a KA carbon fiber version and I'll definitely carry and use it. I'm at a place in the hobby where I want a few lifetime knives rather than three dozen of the coolest, newest and hardest steel knives. I did almost buy a raindrop damascus with the CGG plain titanium handles at my local shop recently but for $655 I can get a brand new damascus sebenza with carbon fiber, various exotic woods, micarta, ect and I think that's probably what most people feel and maybe why there are no pictures yet.

Congrats on yours on the way.

I believe you and I are in the same position in desiring to have life long users to grow old with. I personally only have 2 knives (2 Small UGs) right now that I haven't used. I'll use them for special occassions but one day they will go to my daughters or their husbands.

The plain scales w/ damascus is only $150 more, and for me that takes a month to save up for, not including the base price. So, I suppose youre right. I just love the look of used plain scales and damascus and havent seen a user in this set up.

I have a small 21 damascus with micarta inlays and have really enjoyed using it. I think youre going to love you cf damscus. Congrats again and thanks for a little perspective on this topic.

All the best

I also hope to hand mine down. I have a 3 yr old boy that I already gave to one of my very first knives from my childhood, an old locking Old Timer and he gets to carry it on weekends sometimes. Of course I made it as dull and pointy as a spoon lol. A nice small UG in purples would be fitting for my daughter but I have 15 years to work on getting one of those.

I was basing the $655 off the CGG scale that matches the damascus pattern, I didn't realize they were more than plain jane Ti/damascus but I should have known. I actually prefer the plain blasted over the CGG and probably would have bought one had one been in stock locally. I've always had many CF knives and wanted a quality damascus blade so my inbound should fit nicely and I traded a CF Inlay large towards it so I'm feeling even better about it (I really don't like the polished Ti on the inlay models).

Best of luck

Cory

Mine is not plain (it has micarta) but I use it relentlessly, the blade has a few stain spots, and have even worn through the etch in a couple places (if you cut enough, this will likely happen).

I share the enthusiasm for used knives. They may look nice when pristine, but the pleasure of seeing them is far less than I get from using them.

I wanted to post photos for you, but its not working at the moment.

Heres my EDC (my damascus carry) Its not plain ti, but its the "Silver Contrast". Pics are kindy crappy, but i use and carry it a lot. I do baby the graphic side as in not laying it down on that particular side to avoid as many marks as i can. Im not too bothered if it gets scratched up, but im not intentionally trying to hurry or rush the process. As most know, these graphics can NOT be re blasted. I absolutely love this knife...thinking of sending it in and get an inlay in the hole..not sure what tho?

Good grief!!! That makes me want to sell a kidney and make you an offer! Gorgeous knife

Thanks for the pic.

Thanks KBA^^ I guess you can say i have a "bond" with it lol. Never liked the term, but i guess its true.

I've been away from the forum for a time but always have my large plain Jain with ladder Damascus in my pocket. I use it as hard as I do s35vn and it holds up well. As stated earlier the etch will wear off after time. Don't tell anyone, but I did a quick dip in an etching solution to restore the etch a while back.
I would t carry anything else for an EDC. It holds up well and look awesome doing it!

Flyingjon - That is gorgeous!!! It confirms what I thought in that they would age just as well. Thank you for posting the pics.

These Damascus CRKs are an absolute weakness for me. You all have some beautiful Damascus blades and the photos are amazing. I find myself only wanting Damascus CRKs after getting my first Ladder Damascus Large 21.

Please keep the excellent Damascus pics coming!

So far have not been able to really "use" this one...the plain ones get the pocket & use time...
