Been meaning to do this for some time, I have been working on a new DP and when I finished I got the shop reorganized and ready for some work.

About four years ago I had a small utility closet with a griz and a drill press

Well its kinda out of control now but it is all paid for....I need a real shop.

2 car garage:D

I split it into two sides that's how it seems to function grinding, heat treat on the left, design, layout, drilling, machining, assembly, and finish on the right.

On the Left

Two 2 HP varible speed KMG's with all tooling attachments, wheels etc to include 2 MAP arms

JL horizontal grinder v speed, 22" even heat oven quench plates showing, vise and general beat down area when I am not heat treating I do kydex stuff here.

Small buffer with scotch-brite and wire wheel, the old HF band saw and behind that stuff is hardness tester, handle material, ti and other bench top power tools for wood and stuff.

Now shift to the right

Buffer/sharpening lathe and back side of mill next picture is other side

This area in here is where I work/spend most of my time

Surface plate and measuring area

Main design and assembly area and where most cuss words are spoken;)

Where all that little shit goes for folders, and the standard tool box all men should own JK

Another bench top within that area, that's handy

One of six storage units of handle material but this here is "Top Shelf"

The back area where I take care of all steel cutting, drilling, tapping, blasting, compressor and the flat grinder is used a bunch for knocking that little burr after drilling

dsc04593rn5.jpg

A shot down the line the big craftsman floor standing unit is for GP drilling poor bearings, tapping head, frame driller, and the Clausing VS and disk grinder

Just finished installing this Clausing 15" VS drill press it is super badass and drills a fricken nice hole. Well worth the wait and the money it will be a pain in the ass to move this but dam its sweet to have building these folder's.

I talked with Dan and we both agreed this may have come from the Space agency it is a 1652G ( Goverment Model ) it was made in 1988 so I have decided to call it the "Spook"

dsc03898578031kb5.jpg

The disk sander and my most important and well used bits, tappers , reamers etc

dsc046068418014am5.jpg

The last shot is some material I layed out for use this week along with some other stuff going on, man I really hate the down time involved with setting tooling up but it really is nice down the line.

I'm a little worried about you SAR. Your, "where I spend most of my time" area, in particular the surface plate and measuring area, has me quite concerned. I think you might want to consider therapy asap. That headless hula doll, skull and false teeth are red flags raising questions of deep concern for your mental well being. Please tell us you are ok and not in any way having any neurotic and/or psychotic issues. Issues such as, but not limited to: hearing voices, hallucinations, sleeplessness, dietary problems, severe increase or loss in sexual appetite....and especially compulsively long work hours and/or preferring the company of mechanized entities over, or instead of, human relations. If this is in anyway compounded with frequenting and habitual participation in intangible friendships with invisible people, such as cyberspace forumites, then you need immediate and extreme intervention and treatment. The first thing you must do is to immediately divest yourself of as much of the demonic mechanized contraptions, that nearly have your soul completely entrapped, as possible. Hurry, there's drastically little time. Give away those evil machines immediately! Seek solace on the aforementioned computer forum. Surely, you'll be able to find salvation by donating these many items there.

I can loan you that 1911 on the bench if you feel the need to put yourself out of misery:D, frankly thats where my precious little free bench space is......all those dam machines ate it up;)

This shop has been built as machines where added, this is not how I want my future shop to be. I do like the fact that things are close together, but really need more space I still have a JL pana mill that has never been used:o no room for it at all so you guys can't see it:D

I bet you exceeded your Army approved shipping limit!!

nice man.. very cool!

the teeth were a bit freaky.... was that from a loose blade off that belt sander?!!

I wuz thinking this was a 'Photoshop' tour... Cool! Then I saw what you really meant. ;)

Even more illuminating. I feel there is a direct corollary to the workmanship and attention to detail on a knife, by looking closely at the shop.

I once heard about a consultant who monitored large businesses for their worth and success. He concluded that the cleanliness of the bathrooms were a direct indication of the best of them. If the corporation cares enough to take care of the bathrooms, they are, for the most part, going to take care of the business and employees.

I see a pattern....

i see you got the VFD hooked up okay. Nice job, hows it working for you? Did you get all the parameters set?

I dunno man, that looks like a Hollywood setup to me - it's too clean! :D But okay, I'll move in next week.

Wow! What a setup. I'm duly jealous too!

Ya, I think the most used tool in the shop must be the shop vac. Your studio/shop is a work of art in itself!

Hey Jim thanks, I really do keep it up the last 30 min of the day is spent putting tools away, sweeping and running the shop vac.

Once a month or when needed I clear the floor around the grinders which takes all of 10 minutes, and then wash out the floor with water. It really makes a difference, in the amount of accumulated dust.

Every three months I take everything out and do a complete wash down, spray for bug's set bait for field mice etc.

Why so clean

One of my 4 year old daughters shoe had the biggest black widow inside:mad: What might have happened had she decided to play with her shoe (This was a set of shoes she had kinda outgrown in the garage) So from that point forward I decided to keep my shop pretty straight at all times.

Thanks
Spencer

Very nice!

Those glue traps work pretty good on spiders. :)

Very nice equipment Spencer ! Do you have a link for JL Grinders, I can't seem to find one, the horizontal is killer

Wow, its a dream shop... Thanks for showing...
I wonder how many years did you spent to come this point? I'm struggling to improve my shop, but financial issues slows to process...
