These vices are a very good tool. I have been using the two I made for about 6 or 7 years now.
One thing on mine though that you might want to consider:
I have roundstock welded on for the extension that's put in the vise, and I put that in the PIPE jaws on the bench vice. This way you have 360 degrees of rotation at the base of the bench vice, the head of the bench vice, and at the knife vice itself.
If you can't find the correct angle to work on a knife handle with this vice, you should rethink this whole knifemaking thing.
