Well it looks like it's time to move image hosting sites. I guess they are realizing how much money they are loosing by allowing anyone to embed images on other websites. As far as I'm concerned this is coming late considering how crappy and ad filled the site has become. They'll be pissing a lot of people off and I'm sure loosing a lot of people. I'd invest in my own we hosting before I spent money with them just due to all the ads you have to deal with and how unstable the site is.

I left them a few days ago
So far Imgur seems promising, although about equally annoying to deal with

I just clicked on a link to see a knife pic in a for sale thread, and it took me to PB. I was immediately hit with three ads...that's worse than tube.

There have been a lot of PB threads made since they crapped the bed, and I'm not sure if this info was already added in any of them but it is a popup statement at the PB site:

1. Why Photobucket?

Photobucket is the global destination for linking and 3rd party hosting. In
Photobucket’s 14-year history, the Company amassed over 100 million
registered users, over 15 billion images stored, 2 million daily uploads
and 10 billion photos accessed monthly.

2. What is 3rd Party Hosting?

Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image
or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to
embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another
website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc.

3. Benefits of Photobucket’s 3rd Party Hosting

Easy to Use – Upload a photo from any device and copy the embed code with
one click to host a photo with no development or technical knowledge
required
Competitive, fixed pricing
Offers the only unlimited 3rd party hosting plan (Commercial and Personal
Use)

Gotta love how they use braggart chest-pounding as their defense.

"Competitive, fixed pricing?" Sophistry. Flickr or imgur FTW, of course.

"Offers the only unlimited 3rd party hosting plan (Commercial and Personal Use)." Further deceit and it's clearly spelled out in the word choice. Once again ya gotta love their BS, this last line sounds something like: Welcome to Pennsylvania, the Commonwealth that puts BS taxes on everything; just our way of thanking you - the beneficiary! LOL 'Jagoffs'.

I left PB a couple years back. sli.mg was perfect but blew up. I'm happy with Imgur.

I posted this in the other threads, but it is worth repeating here.

Thanks to Thurin for pointing out...
Whelp...if you are using..
Using IMGUR is a risk!

I have been seeing a lot of people stating that they use it and will be using it to post photos to forums. As Thurin points out, the Imgur TOS specifically mention this

http://imgur.com/tos

With the influx of ex-Photobucket users using Imgur to link photos to forums, I'll bet the bandwidth spike will be enough to draw some attention.

can anyone see this picture

Well, I guess if imgur didn't want people using them to host forum posts, they'd quit supplying bbcode links.

I have been using IMGUR for quite a long time now and am happy with their service. If I want to show something on this forum I photo it and upload to Imgur and paste it to my post...like this:

It is 2017 ... I think the conversation we should be having is as follows.

When we post photos here, we are posting content on a for-profit pay-to-use website. That content, like all content here, adds value to BF - the content is the product!

Shouldn't we be asking why the for-profit pay-to-use website can't pay for image hosting?

Yes, that is a very good point! Paying $75 a year to be able to sell on a website with the only way to display merchandise is images one would think that would be included in the price of being able to sell on said site. I try to use the upload file option as much as possible. I need to set my phone camera setting to a lower setting so the file size is not too big, it's just a pain because I like to use the best setting when taking photos. I'm sure image resizing software could be added to the upload feature to automatically resize them, it's pretty simple technology these days.

EXACTLY! Well said sir! I say FOR SHAME on any site that wants money to join, or become a member. I have been part of public forums since everything bagan(late 90s, early 2000s), and I know what administrators make from add hosting. The only reason a site gets the attention of add hosting IS the content, i.e., the amount of members!!!! WE make the site. How dare you ask me for money! Or limit my activities because I haven't "paid"! It's disgusting greed!

I have been a member of PB for a long time. I won't give them a dime! Shame on your greed PB!

That's not the only way to sell.
It's easy to post a link to your own web site with what it is you're selling.
You don't need to post a photo on Blade Forums.
And if you don't have a web site...........
Personally, I'm very pleased with Photo Bucket and have never had a complaint.

I understand where you are coming from Karl, but I would consider that selling on a personal website. I was referring to paying for membership of this site at the level of being able to sell here. In a non digital sense what you are describing is running an ad in a circular at another store front from where the product is being sold leading them to a different storefront to see said product, when a Knifemaker / Craftsman / Service Provider pays to sell stuff from this storefront. That being said it would be nice since we who pay for that level of service could host the images of whats being sold here, here.

As far as PB I've never really had a gripe either until recently being notified I'll need to pay other than having to deal with the onslaught of ads and the site not being very stable.

Wow, 12 years of posting photos on forums gone. Didn't seem to effect instagram?

I've never had any problems with Photobucket. Always used ad blocker and never saw any ads.

If you guys get a chance, check out postimage.org
It's fast as can be and you can upload in batches on here.
For instance I made a folder called GAW, uploaded images to it and just copy and pasted the code here.
Here's a screenshot

You can do thumbnails or larger pics

I just use drop box, you get x amount of data free. I have an app on my tablet and phone. Simple to make folders and sort pictures. Then just click link and copy and paste. You have to edit the tail end of the URL a little bit but I love the service. When I run out of free space I will most likely upgrade to a paid service. A lot of people don't know this but you can also use Facebook to "host photos" it's a little more tricky to get the URL but I stopped because thy automatically downgrade the quality.
