Hi All,

I have been lurking here for sometime and decided to register and jump in. Great forum, I've enjoyed it and learn alot.

On a potentially slightly off-topic post, I was interested to learn what people carry every day for compact lights/flashlights and any interesting uses they have discovered.

I carry two photon microlights--one on my keychain and another loose in another pocket. They are very small and you hardly notice them. The key benefit is that I always have it with me, so it's useful..because I have it with me. I recently bought one for my wife, who thinks I am a gadget freek, but she loves it (she's getting a Leatherman Micra for Christmas!). I like the lanyard on the micro-light because you can clip it anywhere.

Some recent uses include.

1) Kids use to do homework in the car (no rear seat lighting in my car).
2) Kids play with as entertainment (red one only, battery drains too fast on the white one).
3) My wife (nurse) used it to look at my son's sore throat (yes, it was strep).
4) My wife uses it in the morning to light the doorlock and scare away the deer who hang around in the early morning.
5) Was running a meeting in a windowless hotel room when the lights flickered and I knew what I had in my pocket.
6) I hang the lanyard on my kerosene heater cage right above the level indicator when I fill the heater--my garage is poorly lit.
7) Light up back of TV, VCR, stereo etc, when fiddling with connections.
8) Lighting the path to the outhouse on a recent camping trip.
9) Clipped the lanyard with the lighted microlight to my son's shirt collar so that he could..well..um..be accurate while using the unlit outhouse.

Knife content: The Photon Micro-Light lets me see what I am cutting. Right front pocket--BM 940, Victorinox Classic on keychain. Back pocket adjacent to wallet--Victorinox SAK (bought in Switzerland). In briefcase and sometimes on belt--Leatherman Wave.

Regards,

David

I have a white Photon on my keychain, and a blue one on a chain, which will soon be replaced with a Victorinox Signature II Lite.

It's really handy to have a light around.

Got a blue one on my kubotan's keyring. Need to get a white one with the more focused beam.

Welcome to the forums!

David,

Hi David, welcome to the forum. I carry a CMG Infinity bright blue (called white) in my pocket all the time. It's always with me. What I like about it is that it takes one standard AAA battery or a lithium cell. The lithium cell lasts 200+ hours and the bulb lasts 100,000 hours. It came with a neck lanyard, but I carry a neck 'KNIFE' so it would get in the way. I'm a big fan of the LED lights and plan to get several more.

Welcome David, photon's are neat little lites, very useful. I have one on my keychain and got a bunch for the family, They make great stocking stuffers.
Patrick at http://www.tripleaughtdesign.com has a good deal on them.

Hi David G! Welcome to Bladeforums.

We have a Gagets and Gear forum Here. I would move your thread there except that we are experiencing a temporary (I hope) server problem which prevents my moving your thread.

Photon lights are very popular around here. Win Heger gave my son a blue photon light last weekend at the Timonium Knife show. It's a great little tool.

I will not close this thread (my only option right now), but please, Everyone, post in the right forum for your topics. The general dicussion forum is for knife discussion. Not politics, not community issues, and not Gadgets. Thanks to all for your understanding, and help.

Photons are really great lights. I started using them on Haloween a few years ago. The red and orange really mark the kids so that drivers can see them.

Best deal on Photons now is at http://botachtactical.com/ ; they are $10.95 each. I ordered a dozen recently, and they were here in three days. They also have Sure-Fires on sale.

Other sources of good information on lights is the Candle Power Forum, http://www.candlepowerforums.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi ; another good site is the Photon website, http://www.photonlight.com/ . There is a discussion board, as well as FAQs about colors, battery changes, technical specs and so forth.

I carry several Photons with me all the time. I also carry some Sure-Fires for short term bright light in a small package, and some 3 D cell Mag Lights, with Carley xenon lamps, for bright light which lasts 10-12 hours.

Hope this helps, Walt

Thank you everyone for the gracious welcome. And, thanks for all the great info on micro-lights and similiar lights. Plenty of links to keep me busy for some time.

I knew you all were on the cutting edge

but now I know you are also very bright.

Paracelsus, point taken on the off topic post. Though lurking for some time, I did not realize about the gadget forum. So noted.

Yes botach tactical has the lowest price but there have been many complaints about botach screwing buyers over. I have read negative remarks about botach on flashlight, gun and knife forums.

Ah, lights .....

I really like the Photon Micro-lights. I use a Turquoise on my key chain all the time. Lots of light in a wide beam and great small package. Works great for light the bed of my pickup discreetly and even better in rattlesnake country, lighting sidewalks at night!

For something a little larger, check out the UnderWater Kinetics line of flashlights. I have a disposable lighter sized 2xAAA light in my backpack that sure puts out a lot of light for suce a small package (it replaced my Mag-lite 2xAA). Their 4xAA light is really bright and in a very handy sized package.

For the light saber

I use a Mag-lite 4xD with the High Output Carley lamps and 4 Radio Shack High Output Ni-Cads. I learned of this combination from the good Doctor on the forums about 2 years ago. This light has been my faithful pickup companion ever since.

The Streamlight X-20 and X-35 aren't bad either but, are a little pricey for most folks.

Stay Sharp,
Sid

I carry a yellow photon around my neck all the time (except in the shower). I find that I use it every day. I work nights so when I come home early in the morning or am staying up late and don't want to wake my wife, I use it to find my way around the bedroom in the dark. It works great! I don't know how I ever got by without it. They are also great in movie theaters. The other day my wife and I were at a movie and the people behind us dropped a ring and couldn't find it. Loaned them my photon and they found it right away! Very handy gadgets indeed! My brother introduced me to photons and thanks to his example I now carry one around my neck on a beaded chain just like he does!

Streamlight Stinger with me most of the time, and a streamlight Stylus 2 LED light in white on me at all times. Only drawback to the Stylus is finding AAAA batteries!!
(Yes, I said 4A!!!)

(obligitory knife content)
I really like my new Leatherman Wave!!!
