Photos from the Big Sky Conference.

Cool pictures and obviously a great time was had by all. Wish I could have attended.

No cannon firing bowling balls this year?:D

Hope to see more pictures.

Thanks Coop!
...any photos of the knives from the show?
Jim - Eric Eggly and his son Cameron came this year. He photographed knives all weekend and also spent a lot of time shooting the event goings on, the people, the demos, the scenery - even the horses out in the pasture - as well as the knife show on Friday night at the L.A. Art Gallery. I'm not sure about his plans for the images, but he did say he wanted to post some on-line. The pictures he showed me on his laptop were fabulous - especially the event and people shots. Stay tuned.

I am SOOOOO GLAD that I got to go this year!!!

It was a great time and I learned a ton as well!

Of course the best part of a shin-dig like this is the people. Like my buddy Dave mentioned, Josh has this thing running as such a well oiled machine, that you don't get to visit with others much during the day... but fortunately everybody mingles after the demonstrations.

One of the main highlights for me was seeing Don Fogg at work. The man is an icon in bladesmithing, and you need only see him swing a hammer a few times, hear his clear and easily understood descriptions, and feel his totally unassuming, open minded nature to understand why. It's hard for me to articulate how awesome it was to see him work and get to hang out with him. He is clean-shaven and real slim... he looks great and happy!!! :)

Owen Wood is out of this world. What he considers sloppy is 10 times more precise than what most makers would consider precise in their shops. Also a great demonstrator and very easy to talk to. I enjoyed his demos very much.

Harvey Dean and Larry Fuegen filled in for Wolf, and as would be expected they were great. Larry was giving a demo on sheaths and I leaned over to the guy next to me and said, "You realize he is one of the greatest knifemakers in the world, right?"

Seeing old friends, swapping lies and ideas was great. I got to sit down with a lot of guys and just bs and it was awesome.... Erik, Bill Burke, Bruce Bump,Robert Lindquist, Buddy Thomason and his lovely wife, Art Swyhart, STeven, Blake Snowden, Alden Sherrod... of course there were more but these guys (and gal :) ) I actually got to sit down and chat with for a good amount of time. Wish I would have had more time to hang out with Keith... we weren't even introduced until late on Saturday... Next time Keith! :)

My biggest regret is not getting a test knife that I was 100% comfortable with, as Don was willing to watch over the test and sign my papers (in the event that I were to pass!). But it's not something to rush, and it felt like I would have been rushing it.

Just an awesome week-end!!! THANK YOU JOSH!!!

BTW- FINALLY Erik... somebody got a decent picture of me! :D

there's a lot of skill and talent in those tattoos Steven, that's some impressive work even without considering the less than perfect conditions.

Good on you, Nick! There is always a next time to take the test, and I'm sure it will have been worth the wait for you:thumbup:

I too had a great time and enjoyed this event. It was a great to get to meet wolf and others and a priviledge to have Don and Steven critique a Katana blade that I took along. It was also great to be able to help Keith and mike forge blades, Hope you guys had as much fun as I did. thanks again to Josh and Jodi for hosting.

The Big Sky Conference was fabulous! I had a great time.
 to Josh for putting on such an amazing event!

It was a lot of fun to see old friends and make new ones. I won't mention names as I know I'll leave out someone as there were so many great people in attendance. Special thanks to the people who played chauffeur for me a few times as I didn't rent a car.

The demos were just as others here already stated - very informative, fun to observe and tons to learn. I wish I could have also seen the demos on Sunday, but I had to leave early. I especially would really have wanted to see Don's finishing demo.

The show on Friday evening was very nice. Great knives were all around us. The food was very tasty. The atmosphere was very pleasant. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I do wish a few of the makers had brought a couple more knives though.

I took quite a few pictures but only with my wife's digital point-and-shoot. It did pretty well at the demos and with the cannon, but not well at the show. The lighting at the show was not conducive for easy shots.

Speaking of cannon pictures - here are a few (I'll admit from the get go, my timing wasn't that perfect, these are image captures of videos I took with that point-and-shoot - not too shabby though if I may say so myself):

Here is a link to all those pictures and a few more. I will also add some pictures of the demos in the next couple of weeks and maybe a few of knives from the show:

The one thing I could have done without were those pesky mosquitoes. They always love me and so I always hate them. The ones at Josh's place were extremely vicious though :(, they didn't even care about the Deet (even the ones in Africa and Brazil will stay away from you if you wear that stuff).
Oh well, it is never possible to have everything perfect and everything else that weekend pretty much was :).
