Hi fellow-forumites,
Costas Lakafossis (costasl@techlink.gr) has sent me these photos of the Spyderco Tie-Clip (C??). He asked me to post them on BladeForums to "show this fine little knife to other BF members". So, here they are (with just a LITTLE touching up for display purposes

). Maybe Costas could write a little something in this thread about it? Costas?

Thank you Heyns!

All I would like to add is that this little knife is not only looks, but it has the performance and quality that you would expect from a Spyderco.
I have already used it and sharpened it (I am collecting knives to be used, not displayed) and its steel (I think it is ATS-34) is definitely harder than the AUS-6 blade of the Ladybug. In such a small knife, brittleness is not a factor, so a steel like that will take an edge and hold it forever.

The clip is spring-loaded, not a bent leaf-spring but two pieces with a spring like a clothes-pin. It is a bit large but very secure.

I hear that this fine little knife will soon be available again, Sal will tell you more.

What a beautiful little gem! I do hope that we get notice if/when it becomes available. This could be a "must have".

And I thought the carbon fiber Ladybug was nice looking. This is a really classy looking piece.

Thanks Heyns & Costas,

I feel a "NEED" for this little beauty. Hope we hear from Sal real soon.

Heyns,
That is a 3002-Stag. It retailed when discontinued at 90.00. I believe it was discontinued in 1994 (could have been earlier but not later)

John's correct. No longer made. Costas was one of the original "nags" for bringing back the model. I found an old one "laying around". We won't be producing this model again. We do have an abalone version scheduled for sometime next year.

I too have one of those fantastic stag Tie Clip-Its, having been blessed with it by a benefactor

. It has yet to fail to garner comments no matter where I've worn it. One of the funniest was a check out clerk who was adament about wanting to buy one for her husband and nephew for Christmas. She absolutely couldn't handle the fact that they're currently unavailable and it'd be about a year before new ones would be marketed.

Sal,
Could you PLEASE make it sometime early next year

. Will this model retail around the $100 price point?

Cutiger3 - The one that we're planning on for next year is a little different, abalone scale, more like the Police model in shape and should be less than $100.

A couple of years ago on rec.knives, one of the regulars, Daithi, said that a good knife should not intimidate, but make friends. The Spyderco Tie Clip at least makes a good conversation starter.

A decade or more ago, before I gave up wearing ties in the office, I was shopping at lunch time in a now defunct record store in Glendale, CA, that had a good collection of classical and international music. I took my purchases up to the counter, and the young lady behind the counter looked at me and said, "Is that tie clip a knife?"

"Yes" . . . And I showed her how it works.

Then she said, "Say . . . are those dinosaurs on your necktie?"

"Yes . . . T-Rex."

And then she said, "Are you married?"

"Uh, yes . . . "

And she said, "Damn!"

I think I sort of mumbled at that point. I was so slow on the uptake that it wasn't until I drove away that it sunk into my brain that I might have had an opportunity to sin, thanks to my Spyderco Tie Clip. Maybe that's why I'll be married 30 years in a couple of months.

I'm not married yet (I reckon I have at least one year ahead of me) so I will be wearing my Tie-Clip all the time, just in case...

Seriously, I wanted to add that this little knife has, not only looks but unbelievable cutting performance, too. The factory edge was just sharp, not "Spyderco sharp", but this was quickly rectified with the Sharpmaker. You wouldn't believe the result! It shaves and cuts like a "real" Spyderco, only with better edge holding due to the steel (is it ATS-34?) and the fact that it's so small that you usually use less pressure than with a large knife.
It is definitely the champion of the "performance vs. size" question.
