E, do you prefer your SS SDFK more or your HDFK ? I’m trying to decide which one to pursue for “one fixed blade in the woods”.
I feel strongly both ways.

Solomon, I'm not.

I suppose if I had to choose, which I'm happy to say I don't...maybe the HDFK. It's big enough for anything I would probably do with a knife ordinarily without being overly large / cumbersome. But it really depends on your usage. I'm more of a saw guy than a chopper under most circumstances...other than clearing brush and smallish limbs.

As is often the case, I like this one more than I thought I would.

I am with great regret that I tried to baton through some oak this morning…

Edit by Nate: those are not CPK scales. I just wanted to put that out there for anybody that saw this failure on a Google search, Carothers Performance Knives didn't make those scales...

Tony always recommended I use micarta liners… which I have begun to use.
Also. Holding a wonky shaped piece of wood without gloves.
Def a learning experience.
I guess I am off to make another set, better this time.
Sorry Dan, I know you put a lot of time into that stuff. Another thing Tony told me, is that even with the micarta liners, he considered his scales presentation grade. If you wanted to really beat on the knife, he recommended swapping back to the original scales. He meant for them to be pretty scales that were reasonably durable, not hard use. I think hammering on the knife with the baton falls under his definition of hard use.
