Behemoth Choppers!!

I think a 12" Heavy Chopper is gonna be a fun project. Gotta do something with that idle spindle, may as well go nuts with it. This one has been on the whiteboard for over a year waiting on the right opportunity. I'm going to attempt to make 18 12" choppers in 1/4" D3V as a fun (and not entirely practical) project.

We'll see how it goes...

Nathan, how many will be for sale?!

We'll make 20, consume a few and probably offer 12-16 if I determine they're good. If it's a good pattern we'll probably do a real run of them later in the year. I've been wanting to do this for over a year, this material has been sitting here for this for quite a while now waiting on this machine opening.

One of the challenges is the primary bevel grind is too high to mill effectively, so we'll rough them on a mill and grind them by hand. In the end that's probably going to limit output.

I really hope they become a regularly offered pattern, despite the challenges of milling. A 12" blade with 1/4" stock is PERFECT imo for a chopper.

I'm exited to see what the white board brings forth! Machined by the spindles of Hell!

Wonder if it would look something like this?

I should hope not Tommy, though I suspect it to be more performance oriented than that leaf spring out of a 5-ton truck that just came through called an Ash-1!

Here's my not so veiled attempt in getting my first "like". :D

Ivan, what kind of treatment did you give to those scales? They go perfectly with that cerakote finish, looks outstanding.
