Photoshop CS3 - Version 10

I am no expert but I have found that by using the program, reading the tutorials that are included, and asking friends I have been able to do everything I need. It is an extremely powerful program and you will spend years learning it. Congratulations on your purchase and, most important of all, have fun

Judy, I'm going to suggest you learn the Basics of CS2 by watching the Free videos here. http://www.vtc.com/cd/pscs2.htm

I probably have a dozen books on Photoshop, but my go to book is "The Photoshop CS book for Digital Photographers" by Scott Kelby, get the one for CS2 (or CS3 if it's out). If I could only have one book, that would be it. If I could have another I would take "Adobe Photoshop CS One-on-one" by Deke McClelland.

I also have a very simple image editing tutorial as a Sticky in the Gallery forum, give it a try. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=455896

I love Photoshop, I play in PS like others play video games. The more you play with it the better you'll get. Do not become intimidated, yes it's a complex program, but that allows you many ways to solve any problem that may present itself.

Thanks, Phil!!!!!

I was on Amazon.com today, checking out PS books, and I saw Scott Kelby's name just about everywhere. I also saw the books you mentioned. But I haven't ordered one yet.

Most of the CS3 books are pre-order right now. Not available until around August. Of course there are plenty of CS2 books, but I didn't know if I should wait to get a CS3 or not.

I'm also confused about the CS stuff. I don't have the other software that they reference as part of CS.

PS will probably be my new toy, also. I love creating stuff on the computer. Others enjoy other pasttimes, but computers are my addiction of choice. Well, except for BF and watching movies, and popcorn!

Thanks again, Phil. I'll check those books out.

Judy, I would suggest waiting for the CS3 versions of the books. Every update of PS has significant changes from the last version, so wait to spend your money.

In the mean time there's hundreds of PS tutorials that will help you get the Basics down, those don't change much from one version to another. The Basics you can learn for Free, just look up CS3 tutorials on Google. Here's one I found in about 10 seconds that should keep you busy until the books are being shipped.

You don't need the tutorials that do one specific thing like, "How to do Rusted Metal text". You want the Beginner tutorials that will help explain the Tools, Menu items and Pallets used in PS. Also you want to start by learning the keyboard shortcuts to things from the start. The best keyboard shortcut I can teach you to start is Control + S, that's how you Save your work. There's nothing more important than to Save often.

Do try my image editing tutorial from Gallery, I don't think it gets much easier than that.
