Photoshop THIS!

Is it a bowtie or a gimp? I think that was the one used on the original Vintage Knives model (only slightly larger), seems they had good taste. You could try a slightly linear shield as well if you're trying to fit a name in there, although a bar shield in Post #4 works well also:

Might as well throw it on the knife too:

I like the bar shield. The bowtie is nice too but the bar seems more traditional or older to me.

I always thought that the shield you fellows are calling a "bowtie" was/is a Very old traditional;) Propeller?

I am sure some one w/ more knowledge will set me straight and that is NO problem.:)

That bowtie/propeller/gimp really makes the knife--dresses up the plain simplicity of the Blackwood/Ebony. IMHO adds a unique touch of class without being gaudy. I wouldn't want to see a big stamp on it, though.

I didn't explicitly state above, so I'll state it here--I'd gladly pay extra for this shield. We selected the least expensive choice for 2010, so I figure we're ahead of the game to begin with....

a gimp shield, least thats what i learned to call it, i have an old 4 line camillus with one...
unless something changes i believe the forum knife may have the bar or the oval... i like the gimp shield but it would be more money and i dunno what that would do to us in regards to what queen has already quoted, etc.
i comped up a couple photos of a bar and shield yesterday for charlie from examples he supplied so we shall see, either way i'm liking the vintage look of this, i know alot of people dont like the fact that it's wearing ebony but i think it looks nice!
cheers

Everybody can do photoshop but me! Harumpf!!
Umm, thanks for all your efforts folks!!
The plan has been to place a simple bar shield, slightly smaller than this one;
IvansBar1.jpg

It is in keeping with the old pattern we have chosen, which, by the way is well over 100 years in age!!
We do have to use a shield that Queen already has dies and templates for, but I will find out what else they have. They stamp out the shields with a die, and use a "parser plate" type of template to route out the recess.
Complicated shields result in chip-outs and other flaws that add to the "seconds" pile.

Charlie, Ivan

For what it is worth, this one is sized much better for the pattern IMHO.

Ken

i agree, and i like the bar shield better than the oval, love the gimp shield but that may not be an option...and i'm sure it would be a bit more expensive
cheers

I probably shouldn't be doing this but there's just something about it :D The slim bar shield looks great.

That is a very nice knife with whichever shield is chosen. I like the slim bar myself.

Ivan, that bar is perfect!! Ken, I appreciate you jumping in with your knifemaker's eye!
Greg, so is that oval perfect; you are making it tough!!

I like the gimp, too, but that slim bar does have a an old timer quality to it. Great work photoshopsmiths! This is gonna be another hit for a forum knife. I really love the moose pattern. I have 2 so far, this will be #3...
