Piano Key Ivory

Yup, it comes out with just two screws … one at each end by the last key.
Once the key board is out, and the harp and sounding board are removed as well, the piano is pretty light.

IIRC, there are over 6000 pieces in the keyboard assembly.

"Ebony" colored pianos cases are not ebony and most white piano keys are not ivory. I would guess that any post 1930 made piano that you find with ivory keys would likely be worth a lot more intact than as the sum of its parts/raw material.

Since this is an older thread brought back, I will tell you what I have done with a few old pianos. a few years back, I picked up a 1934 upright Steinway that was stored for years in an unheated house. I got it for free. It looked good except it did not play right anymore. The sound board was cracked. I removed the harp and all the hammer parts of the keyboard. I converted the void in the top to a bar. I made the upper front board so it lifted and self-stored under the top. A little refinishing and it looked like it was new on the outside. It sold for $1000.

I have another Steinway coming. I'll post photos of that one when I get it. I plan on doing the same thing with it.

I love furniture made with old stuff. I have an old treadle sewing machine that I need to turn into a table. I have a bunch of 2"X6" salvaged oak and walnut slabs that I have been sitting on for years. I would love to see what you did with it just in case I come across an old piano. A lot of that stuff has a better return than knives.

yep, getting an old piano prior to 1930 and a lot of people will let you hall them off free is legal small orders say 5 scales of certified antique piano covering is legal but any other purchase is illegal and some states have stricter laws that others and skip the text book when inlaying it is much easier to do the opposite, cut your lion, dragon or your design first and use it as a pattern to draw you engraving line around and engrave to exact depth. The piece will be snug with no gaps and it will save your mind. And although they say you can’t enlarge 14k gold you can if your using sheet metal gold and cut to the exact size and shape but you’ll never flatten a 14k wire start with something already flat and to proper gauge.
