I got this from a friend at work. He purchased the knife after seing the Card Stock cut out when I was drawing it up. he took it with him hunting with his Dad this year His Dad shot the Deer and used the knife for its first use. His dad now wants one I was thinking about posting the photo on my website as a field report on the knife but not sure about it since it is covered with blood. (People get funny Like PETA LOL) what do you think.

I also gave this exact same design but with Orange Handle Scales to my pastors son for his first hunting knife after passing Hunter Safety. He got his Deer and was excited to report he did everything on the deer with this knife (Minus sawing bone) will be getting me a photo with the knife and his Deer as well as a report.

I like the deer skin background, not sure I'd go with the blood. Glad to see your knife got put to use. I had two out in the field, and neither of my knife testers got a deer.

I don't mind the blood, it kinda says "HAY", i make knives to be used. but some people might not like it.

who cares if PETA doesnt like it. I make my knives for people that will use them, not them. Have a similar pic on my website and have a few others i plan on adding

PETA people do not get funny, they get angry, and fast. Do not try to reason with them, it is like blowing in the wind.

That blood is nothing compared to some of the elk pictures Ive seen over on the Custom Forum.
Nice working knife Larry. He must be happy with it if the Dad wants one. I love a "user knife" that also looks good. Nice work.

If you really think showing photos of your knives covered in blood will help to establish credibility for them and increase sales, then you might want to go for it. If you don't care about the unsettled reaction of discomfort and/or distaste some folks may have, then you probably need not worry about it. On-the-other-hand, if you don't want to turn some folks off, and you don't think you will loose any sales without the blood, then loose the blood. If it were me, I would rather err on the side of manners. Once again, on-the-other-other-hand, maybe a section of knives in action could work as a subset the visitor specifically chooses to view knowing what to expect.

By-the-way, nice looking knives!

Beautiful knife and I'm glad it was used for the intended purpose.

Following Phil up.... if you don't mind the potential loss in sales by offending "PETA-type" people then put the pic up.

Perhaps you could get a cleaned up pic of the knife on the rifle or something wit a few lines of how well it worked?

Remember "tree huggers" buy knives also.

I thought it was "like pissing in the wind" which from experience is not a good thing :grumpy:

I think Phil said this rather well. Blood doesn't bother me, but it could hurt your customer base more than it bolsters it.

The knife was actually used by his Dad in this photo (He didnt get one this year) he asked his Dad how it worked and he was told "Get me one" that is the best compliment I have heard about my knives yet. LOL

No peta people would buy knives anyways. They are for barbarians who own pets and eat meat. Some even cut there veggies with wood KSO's. I think most people who are looking for a custom knife should be OK with hunting even if they don't do it themselves.

Keep the photo. Don't use it on the front page, of course, but put it in the gallery, and label it appropriately "customer photo of my knife as used during the hunt". And get a few better, cleaner shots as well.

Nice knife, by the way.

I don't make a living making knives and if I did my opinion might be different but I think wouldn't want a customer who was offended by a picture of one of my knifes doing what it was designed to do.

I am a person for the ethical treatment of animals, although, perhaps "my" ethics are different than many PETA though.

I like to hunt and raise livestock and process and eat my harvest. I pasture my animals and provide them quality organic feed, seaweed and kelp meals, Hawaiian ti plants, etc. I do no feedlot or housing-only raising. My animals have stables, pens and coops to get in from out of the weather. I manage pests and parasites with wholistic balanced care of this sort. I do not use toxic pesticides, but manage manure intensively to eliminate bug breeding habitat, keep my livestock clean, work with diatomaceous earth and herbal extracts such as citronella, lavendar and rosemary oils.

For me animal husbandry is a priviledge and honor. To domesticate and care for an animal is a two way gift. Genuine farming and wildlife management arises from an ethic of respect, care and consideration.

I guess, in the end, how you display and market your knives will reflect you and your values, as well as your craftmanship and artisty.
