As mentioned previously (somewhere or other :D )

the new Swamp Rat Folder as offered by Shomer-Tec.

It's weird that you can purchase the rat folder at www.shomer-tec.com because I've always thought you had to directly deal with swamprat to make a purchase rather than a third-party company. Wonder why swamprat allowed shomer-tec.com to sell their folder?

Yes, Everyone is curious how the rat trap compares with the sebenza. Can anyone answer this question?

As for the Shomer-Tec angle, I was curious about that too, but then I figure the bottom line for Swamp Rat keeping sales in house was to avoid costly dealer mark ups and deliver the product to us at a reasonable price. As best I can tell, the price for the Rat Trap is the same from Shomer-Tec and direct from the shop. Their intent to keep the price low is intact and you have yet another option for purchasing this fine folder.

Now as to a Sebbie/Rat Trap comparison. Best I can tell, both are fine knives. My Sebbie is BG-42 and since ia am no metallurgist, I wouldn't dare compare the S30V blade to it. There are plenty of folks who know about that that could chime in. The Rat trap seems lighter in weight, but larger in size. When these baby's are open they are massive looking. Reports from the field have it that Rat Trap protos that have been in daily use since June have not even needed touching up to pop hair off of your arm! The material differences are easy to go through by comparing specs from each company. Oh yeah, did I mention 4 months of constant daily carry since June in a pocket without one bit of corrosion? That is something that my Sebbie can't say, bear in mind it is a different blade steel though.

Both great knives, but for my money, I'll go with the Rat Trap or two! :D

Thanks, Progunner,
Could you tell me if Rat Trap can be disassembled? I heart one of advantages of Sebensa is that you can disassemble it to clean. I have never disassembled folders, do I really miss something?
Regards,

I haven't tried it. I probably won't either. Eric might be better able to answer that though. Small screws have a tendancy to get lost around me. :)

Regards,
AFAIK the Sebbie is about the only production knife designed to be disassembled. It also cost in excess of $300. I have yet to take mine apart, so you're really not missing anything unless you want a Sebenza. Excellent knives BTW, mine is an older one with BG-42 blade steel.

The Shomer-Tec deal is no mystery. Jerry&Co has ALWAYS put LEO, Military and the like first in line for any Busse or Swamp Rat blades. I personally have not the slightest argument with this philosophy and practice.

I guess when Eric said "the folders will be shipping at the end of the month" in September, he didn't mean October either. How about at least a picture of the production version?
