Pic request Military next to Manix 2

I completely disagree with Rascos assessment, but that doesn't mean he's wrong. He's just...confused! Hehehe. Just kidding. Like he said, it is subjective to a degree, but for me it is not even close. The Military carries WAY slimmer than the manix. The manix is a complete pocket hog IMO and the Millie somehow manages to almost disappear in the pocket. I actually find it a better carry than the bm 710 but that might just be my bias toward Spyderco talking.

Go ahead and try the Millie...thing carries amazingly small for what it is.

I don't suppose you have both a Millie and 710 to take pictures of side by side?

I don't know Benchmade knives, but I'm assuming this is the right one. I found these online...

Lenny a lot of people prefer the military to be tip down (or maybe they've just convinced themselves of that). Don't let that aspect keep you from trying one out. It's an easy knife to resell if you don't like it.

The Millie carries really well to be so big. I carry it in jeans pockets on either side with no issues. I can't carry it in my khakis pockets very well just because the khakis that I wear to work have pockets that are a little shallow. I do wear cargo khakis most of the time, so I usually carry it in the cargo pocket.

Mmm, this thread made me go get my Millie and fondle it a bit before I put it in my pocket. The military is (ergonomically and functionally) probably the finest folding knife I own.

Hope I'm not giving the impression that the Military is lacking in any way, just for me, personally, "tip-down-only" is a bigger deal than it probably is to most people. I'd love to have mine customized to carry tip-up, I'd be willing to buy a clip and all. I just don't own a drill press or whatever tools would be needed to drill the holes myself.

**Edit - Nccole just posted this very thing :P

Don't let that stop you! It is too good of a knife to not have. I solved the clip orientation problem and it was a simple cheap fix. I would recommend anyone give this a shot. Check out a thread I created detailing how I went about it.

Some people may disagree with me on this, but, in my opinion, tip down is not really that big of a deal. I've read countless threads about people refusing to have a knife that is tip down. I've read it so many times, it almost had me convinced not to buy a Military at all. It almost sickens me to think that I might not have gotten to experience a Military because of this. I sure am glad I just went with the general consensus that the Military is a great knife, and not that tip down knives are ridiculous. I haven't regretted buying my Military... not even once. I prefer a tip down carry in most situations, but I will never base my decision to buy a particular knife on that alone.

side note: I understand the argument about safety, accidental opening, etc. I've had an incident myself by putting a right hand carry knife in my back pocket as if it were a left hard carry knife. To me that's more important that tip up/tip down.

The S110V Manix 2 is the LIGHT WEIGHT version. It weighs a bit under 3Oz I believe.?? Are you thinking of the Manix 2 XL?
I own both knives, so nope, I'm not guessing. I'm comparing tip-down Military to tip-up Manix 2 LW.
I checked on my lunch break, both knives are pretty much the same "thickness" when held side by side.
The Military is quite a bit taller in the pocket.

And don't you think "how it carries" is pretty subjective? Like, different people might have different opinions on which knives "carry better" for them, personally? But thanks for telling me I'm wrong.

How do you feel about tip-up Vs tip-down and how it feels in the pocket, when you reach your hand in, etc? No difference to you?

Wasn't talking about the light weight version, I was talking about the original. The original, with all the crazy jimping everywhere is a pocket hog and your hand catches on it all over the place. The Military is lighter than the regular Manix 2 and I think it carries better as do quite a few folks.

Tip down vs tip up doesn't concern me. The Manix 2 sticks out anyway and with it's jimping all over the place is just like mashing your hand into the thumb ramp jimping of the Military. I own a few Manix 2's as well as a few Mili's. I never carry the Manix 2's.

I'm fortunate to get to choose between 2 amazing knives in 2 great super steels.
Diff'rent strokes I guess. I've tried both, and for me, for my jeans, for my front right pocket, the Military feels bulkier.
Clearly a lot of you dudes disagree. That's perfectly fine.

I can't speak on the regular G-10 Manix or Manix 2, I only own the LW version.

One more thing I can't warm up to about the manix2, is the edge length for the size of the knife.

So I picked up a Ti Military and am carrying it today. Even though it is much heavier, I still like carrying it more than the LW manix 2 because it's not as wide. I would say the 710 carries easier because dimensionally, it's still smaller ever every way except blade length. The 710's blade is actually longer than the military's, but it's not a huge difference. I'll carry this for a week and see how I feel.

I am actually warming up to tip-down carry, especially with a knife this size.

I have to concur man, I have lots of folders but my 2 orange millies almost always get the nod.
