Pick a knife to carry while helping someone move...

I'm going back to my home state this weekend (New Jersey) for a variety of reasons, one of which being to help my friend move into his new house.

Here are the rules:

1. Must be Jersey/sheeple friendly. I don't think Jersey has any size restrictions, just can't be a 'weapon'.

2. Must be able to stand up to probably quite a bit of carboard cutting and box opening.

3. Nothing too nice in case it gets crapped up a little

Here is what you get to choose from:

I'm not familiar with those knives, but I would pick the thinest blade. Or the knife with which you have more control (don't want to accidentally cut anything inside the boxes you will be opening).

Go buy a beater or a box cutter and leave one of those in the car just in case you can't stand the cheap cutting edge.

Well, it isn't in the lineup presented, but I would think that a Leatherman or its ilk would be the best choice for a move. The last time that I moved, having one in a sheath on my belt was invaluable. If you don't have one already, this might be the perfect opportunity to buy one. Best excuse in the world. ;)

[Edit: For a move,] I'd rather bring an old kitchen knife than any of those you presented. Moves can be tough on a knife and offers plenty of opportunity to lose whatever you bring. [Edit: Plus, everyone will be asking to borrow your knife. Do you want to loan it only to find someone trying to screw something in with the tip? It'll happen...]

^^^Great advice.

Best of luck. I hate to move.

All lack the most necessary of tools for a moving day......the bottle opener for the 6 pack that comes with the pizza after the move. :D

Leatherman or SAK. You will probably have dozens of things to do that day that rquire a screwdriver or other tool, beyond just cutting. Which these provide as well.

The 0777 is my new knife and it's the one I am leaning towards bringing.

Go for it!!!
But make sure that it's either
A) in your pocket, or
B) in your hand. Don't set it down, if you can help it because that's how things get lost. (for me at least)

Well, if it was me, I'd bring a box cutter AND a knife...no, make that a few box cutters. I've been through enough moving jobs to know your buddies will be borrowing your blades if they see you've got some. But if you can only bring a knife, I'd go witht the 0770. The blade shape is more ideal for box cutting than the other knives and the black carbon fiber handles are lower key than the others.

As a side side note, welcome back to "Joysey", the Cali of the East

All you box cutter people are no fun.

And thank you from Middlesex County

Bring the Estrella. That's a good beater.

While I don't doubt that the Estrella would do absolutely everything I could ask of her, she is just too damn pretty.

I think if I'd be bringing the 777 that baby would be duct taped to my hand, or at least on one of those retractable janitor key chain things. Couldn't stand to take my eyes off it for more than a second
