looks like i'll be doing some business with the steel baron... though $50.00 is far from the 20 everyone keeps telling me to expect... lol... probably have to wait untill after the new year though... might have to build me a homemade belt sander in the meantime though... should be able to get the supplies to do that without costing me more than a couple bucks... wish i had more access to the CNC plaz's at work... could draw out and pre-cut all the pieces at work... lol... oh well.. have to just do it the old fashioned way... a torch and drill press... thanks for the tips guys... it may end up being a slow moving thread... but i'll check back in with progress...

I think that's because the width you need for these projects is double the average project, and new makers tend to goo too thick too. More steel means higher costs and higher shipping weight.

yeah... i figured on that... especially when i started looking around and it wasn't the usual size... i've always been rather ambitious though... wasn't complaining... that's actually closer to what i was originally expecting though but that's quite a bit more length than i was expecting... probably bring home some basic steel to run a few grinds with, and gain some experience if i manage to get this delta 2" belt sander... trying to do some horse trading to get ahold of it... maybe get a bi-metal blade for my band saw, though i've got a stack of cutoff wheels for my grinder... another thread on here got me thinking about bowie knives... so i figured i'd draw one up just to get some tip's on the designing of it... i did take the advice and quote a thinner piece of steel for the blade thickness... at work i'm used to 1/4" being tiny... 3/4" to 1 1/2" is about the usual thickness of plate we work with... with 3-6" being the thick cuts we do... big propylene CNC torch cuts... makes for alot of slag... but i've got a jeep with a 5.9l cummins engine... and i built it myself... so it can't be said that i don't build things strong enough!!! lol...
