Recommendation? Pick My New EDC (Under $200)

The dpx looks interesting but I read a review that complained of lock stick and warned about blade play developing from repetitive opening. Is the glass breaker carbide? Is there something similar with phosphor bronze washers?

Are baseballs carbide? I broke a car window with one of those once. Most knives will develop play with repetitive opening. Screws + vibration = loose over time. Lock stick is a safety feature.

I don't mean to bust your balls too much, but generally when you look for a product and only find a few, cheap examples there's a reason. It's a silly product. I've always looked at glass breakers, strap cutters, etc. on a knife like "needing" a laser, light, bayonet and flash suppressor on a home defense gun. Unnecessary.

Get a rescue tool for rescues and a knife for cutting tasks.

Actually a Flash suppressor on a home defense or any rifle is almost a requirement

I don’t want to be fiddling with a separate glass breaker and cutter

Without getting into details I use the strap cutter and the carbide glass breaker quite a bit for alternative purposes
Hence my requirements
I appreciate the suggestions and helpful information
Please keep them coming
I’ll raise my budget to sub $200

I will say, check out cold steel options with a cts-xhp blade. (Recon? Code4?)
Great steel, they have very aggresive serrations, plain old solid knives, and at right about half your budget for most options available

With a budget of under $200 I have a feeling the Benchmade Triage previously posted is going to be hard to beat if you want to check all the boxes. Seat belt cutter, glass breaker, serrated edge, Axis lock, and n680 steel. It seems like a Triage is exactly what you're looking for. It also has the added bonus of coming in black or easy to locate orange which I think is ideal for a work knife. They're going for $160 - $165 on BladeHQ right now.

Alternatively... Have you checked out any of Eickhorn's offerings? I don't know much about the company, but it looks like they offer a couple knives that fit the bill. Seat belt cutter, glass breaker, serrated edge and n695 steel (comparable to 440c I believe). They do use a liner lock though. Looks like they go for about $140.

I am almost 50 years old. I can't tell you of any time I needed a glass breaker or strap cutter in life. Comlpete waist. You can throw the lanyard hole in there too!

I carry a triage at work on an ambulance “couldn’t resist”. And actually the strap cutter really does make for a useful tool for cutting random things, strings, plastic of any type, packaging, mail, boxes. It’s a great blade!

He wants a seat belt cutter and glass breaker in his knife. Let's respect his wishes.

Unfortunately, you don't have a ton of respectable quality choices out there. I would suggest one of the Fox (Sierra or ALSR) or Ontario OKC XR-1 knives.

Not sure how well the slick handle on the Code 4 would perform in a stressful situation. Mine locks in pretty good but I don't serve or protect for a living :thumbsup::thumbsup: The Recon1!

What do you use the glass breaker for? I'm genuinely curious. The strap cutter has plenty of fairly obvious uses, but I'm at a loss for what I might use the glass breaker for other than breaking glass.

Carbide can be used to mark metal and score ceramics and pointed carbides are the most useful
