Pick one knife, based solely on functionality

If you could pick one folding knife, regardless of price, based on ALL AROUND FUNCTIONALITY ALONE in every situation, which would you choose?

To be clear, things like nice inlay, figured wood handles, etc are probably given very little weight when making this choice.

Please discuss.

From what I've seen...

Hinderer XM-18

For all around functionality, I would choose a small fixed blade. Could be smaller OAL than many folders. The fixed blade just has more assets and fewer liabilities.

For a folder based purely on functionality and usefulness.......

Much used A Wright.

for me from what I have seen it would have to be my CRK large Black canvas micarta inlay sebenza.

Well i gotta say a leatherman if they count. if no then i guess id have to go with the manix its a hell of a knife (i mean the old one not the newer manix) its leaf shaped blade slices and dices like a champ and its got a big hadle that would be comfortable in the long run. the sebenza is a close second because its just so damned reliable and perfect just isnt big enough for camp chores and to replace a fixed blade. number three would have to be a benchmade bowie balisong theyre the ultimate in reliability and folding strength.

Purely on funcionality I would go with a Strider SnG. They're tough little buggers and can take a beating.

I have a ton of good folders but this S&W is the most used and favorite folder that I own. I convex ed the edge and it gets used for every dirty nasty knife chore that I have. I Have carried it daily for ten years now.

From a purely functional viewpoint? A Queen Stockman with D2 blades.
It'll handle any job I need done.

From a purely functional point of view, why is it superior to a Delica or Endura or Griptilian? Each is sharp, locks open, and fits the hand.

The part of the question that drew me in was "if we could could have ONE folder, regardless of price..." I basically took the OPs question to read what is our absolute favorite all-around folder.

If functionality is just "SHARP, LOCKING AND FITS A HAND" than that can be almost every knife. Why stop at the 2 Spidies and BM?? That list is endless.

Quality of build, materials, design...they do matter. Not saying your 3 examples aren't good knives but if I could could have ONE...

...it'd be the XM-18.

That said...a SAK is gonna be pretty hard to beat if they are included.

Victorinox Swisstool RS. May not be considered a folding knife but it does have a blade.
