Pick one knife, based solely on functionality

Funny, a couple Buck threads got me carrying my 110 again. I've been carrying it all day, everyday for the past 2 weeks. What I like the most about it is it's sturdiness. :D:thumbup:

I'm actually looking for one made from 154CM atm.

Their agencies don't allow it.

And most firefighters would look like dorks carrying fixed blades in all reality. There are plenty of tools available when a folding knife is not the right tool for the job on working scenes.

cuphead,

Check 'Bass Pro' - they have a Buck 110 made for their sale with CPM154 steel, while "Cabelas' has one, their 'Alaskan Guide' variant, in S30V. I have both - definite keepers - ~$70-$80.

For pure knife functionality, I like the small Sebenza with inlays. Easy to hold on to, very sharp. Fit and finish are superb. Three inch blade is capable of doing most jobs. The stability is almost as good as a fixed blade. It can be easily taken apart and cleaned when necessary. Comes with the lanyard, if you are working in environments that might need to use the lanyard.

These reasons are why the Sebenza is my EDC. The only downside is the price.

My Surefire Delta is pretty darn functional

Agreed.

Not sure what the OP's terms were, but if we're talking about a single blade folder, the Surefire EW-04 Delta Folder would be at the top. I don't own another of the single blade folder type that can do what the Delta folder can do...

Fixed? I'd choose a 4-5" fixed blade from Busse (my nuclear edc comes to mind).

Multiblade folder would have to go to an SAK. That's a lot of functionality in a small package.

For a folder I would have to say the CS Recon 1, I have put mine through hell in the past 6 years and it still locks up tight. That includes out in the field camping etc.

Fixed blade for me would be the Busse CG FMB because it will do anything that I would ever need done and will not fail.

Pick one knife period, it would be the Busse CG FBM.

based pure on functionality, I would have to say, old timer bearhead trapper!

I framed houses for a long time this knife was with me thru thick and thin, I carried it hunting and fishing, I used it to work on wiring, hell it's an all around good knife!

I love a straight handle, so if only one pick I would have to go with Sebenza with micarta inlay.
The micarta gives gives good grip when wet, and helps the small fill the hand.

SAK Spartan Lite. Enough tools, a small long burning white LED, tweezers, micro screwdriver, and most importantly, a corkscrew for attacking a wine cellar to truly enjoy the zombie apocalypse that has left me only with a SAK somehow.:D

Outside of a SAK, my custom Buck 110 in BG-42 and jigged water buffalo horn, a Spyderco Endura 4 in VG-10, or a Pacific Salt. I can't decide daily, so I can't decide now.

Stepping away from all aesthetic concerns and one-use (cutting, prying, skinning, whatever) considerations, the most useful knife in my arsenal is this:

Nothing comes close to this for functionality: The Leatherman Wave

If you could pick one folding knife, regardless of price, based on ALL AROUND FUNCTIONALITY ALONE in every situation, which would you choose?

I had to re-quote the OP because some people missed the point.

For "ALL AROUND FUNCTIONALITY" I would have to say an SAK or Multi-tool if you consider them folding knives.......I do.:D
