I haveta go w the elder. Im a cabinetmaker and always gone with the rule of "if you cant see the grain of the wood, why have it?" I like the color and texture of the rosewood but grain definition of the elder wins me over
 
Ok - little update for y'all. My original trade didn't work out, but I had many inquiries on both knives. For the record, this was not my intention when I posted this thread -- I simply wanted your opinions (thinking the first trade might eventually work out). Having said that, I did end up trading one (for a new Seb21 plus cash) . . . and it was the jigged rosewood.

Not to worry, though -- I still have my box elder, snakewood, and ebony Mnandis. So I'm good. Thanks again for all your comments -- this was fun for me.

You made the right choice with your Mnandis---to my view, the box elder inlay makes for a far more eye-catching and attractive knife than the jigged rosewood. Nicely done, and I commend your resistance to peer pressure, sir! ;-)

I LOVE box elder, especially when it's red-orange. But I haven't seen a jigged rosewood for sale in a long time, I see box elder from time to time.

Thanks, Jedi. And you're correct, the jigged RW is less common than the Box Elder. I was Ok with trading the jigged RW because I already have (in addition to the Box Elder) an Ebony Mnandi (another dark colored wood) and a Snakewood Mnandi (a medium colored wood). So, it's all good.
