Pick the becker line up.

Really like this thread and the comments from those who have used many, most, all of the Becker line up.

I have most and have used all that I have except the 20. Reading Jonny 1280’s response above I felt he pretty much nailed how I feel about the Becker line up. At first I was just going to quote him with a thumbs up but, what the heck, decided to provide my own feedback also.

So here goes:

BK1 - have one, have used it. It feels like it ought to do a lot of work but several others in the lineup do everything it can do better. I’ll be keeping mine but it probably won’t see any more use.

BK2 - my gateway Becker. The first time I picked one up it already had micarta handles on it and the combination of look and feel was too enticing. I had to have one. I now have a couple and they don’t get anywhere near the use of others but, for me, if you want Becker knives, in addition to ‘you can’t not have a 9’ I’d add you absolutely must have a 2. Just because.

BK3 - agree with Jonny 1280 here. I’ve looked at buying one probably a dozen times and just can’t get excited enough about it to pull the trigger. Not sure what I’d do with it.

BK4 – one of my favorites. I have a few and my user is a Cincinnati. Near or at the top of the list of Beckers if someone said I could only have one. (I’d still cheat and also have an 11, 16 and 9 though.)

BK5 – agree with Jonny1280 here too. “I always thought it was the most unappreciated BK.”

BK6 – for my needs and uses this is one of my favorite Beckers. I’m not a bushcrafter, just a guy with lots of trees and yard to maintain. Absolutely love the feel and using this one.

BK7 – agree with Jonny1280 here too. “never did it for me. I wouldn't cry if it went away.”

BK8 – don’t plan on ever having to escape from a helicopter so it’s okay with me if I never see or have one.

BK9 – I have more 9’s than any of the others in my collection. There’s a reason for that.

BK10 – haven’t used this blade much and probably won’t given my other choices for users.

BK11 – love this one. Toughness and function in a compact package. At the price you can pick one up for I don’t know why everyone who thinks about owning Becker knives doesn’t have at least one.

BK12 – don’t have one and have no experience to comment on.

BK13 - meh.

BK14 – again agree with J1280, “wishes it was as cool as the BK11”, and I’ve gone with the 24 instead of the 14.

BK15 – not sure why this one is gone. Very useful blade.

BK16 – a must have. Even if you have many/all Beckers the 16 would find regular use and carry time.

BK17 – doesn’t really bother me that this one is leaving. Don’t really use mine given the other choices

BK20 – must admit this is one that hasn’t gotten any use yet. Still new in the box. Feels awesome in hand but I can’t comment on its value as a user.

BK21 – I was amazed at both its ability to chop and how light in hand if feels. At one point I was making some kindling pieces and felt like I was in the kitchen rapidly chopping some celery or something. Scary thought, I slowed down, but this large blade is very light in hand.

BK23 – no experience with, no comment.

BK24 - love it almost as much as the 11.

i just posted in the other thread my ideas on Tweeners...

full tang for everybody

square spines - lose the swedges, bushcrafters don't want them, and people cutting ropes or vines can add them, but you can't put metal back

fix the BK3 - no wire hook

thicker BK4, more weight forward basically, tapered full tang handle, possibly loveless style (http://peu.net/mods/cuchillos/loveless/), but certainly distal - no keyholing!

a parang style chopper. possibly something like an e-nep, but given we can get those in other companies in things like 5160 and convexed, shrug

additional shapes of interest: http://www.cartercrafts.com/knifeinfo.htm and other concepts

Crap... I thought this thread was about which existing Beckers you'd keep in the line up.
