PICK YOUR KNIFE!!!!!--

--5 Siegles to choose from

Took Carol and Zeus out for a hike and knife test yesterday

Brought 5 Siegles to play with

Carol asked me if I could ONLY have one---which one would I choose.....

This is not going to be what one I liked---but WHICH ONE you would choose if you could have only one
You find yourself in any situation one might have a use for a knife

It could be a WILDERNESS area,A Tropical Island(Boat Wreck),A Desert(car Broke down),ETC

AGAIN--THIS IS A LEARNING POST FOR OTHERS NOT AS SKILLED AS YOU ARE

You GOAL is to look at the knives and DECIDE what ONE would meet MOST of your needs

Tell us WHY as well!!!!

Specs--all are 1/4" 5160 except for the Blue handled one which is 1/8" 1095

I'll show where I went yesterday and the Knives will be after those photos

AGAIN--LIST THE ONE YOU THINK YOU WOULD CHOOSE AND WHY!!!!!

I'd have to go with the orange G10 handled knife. The size and blade shape are very nice but the edge being closest to the handle would seal the deal for me.

Congrats. That's a nice set you got there.

The second one down with the choil.
The 3rd one down with the orange handle would be the next in line.

I think I'd take the guarded one, though these days I could do without the guard the idea of it doesn't bother me and in a rough situation may even come in handy.. First off it has the sharpest point which is a big issue for me personally for use in finer tip work and for boring small holes for filtering water. It looks a handy size for working with for carving and whittling making friction fire components and small enough to control in any food or game processing. Also it isn't all that long so in theory could handle rough use like prying, gouging, and digging a little better...depending on the size of that hidden tang. This would be good for digging into deteriorated logs for grubs or tinder material Also as for the length I don't plan on doing any more chopping than I have to in a survival situation but with 1/4" 5160 the potential is there for the knife to be plenty sturdy enough for truncating (my own way) any poles I'd need for a shelter. Then depending on the area and situation it is small enough to be discrete and large enough to be effective.

I actually wouldn't mind giving one like that a go. Is it still a current Siegle model? Price?

I'd take the big one at top because it's got a nice big blade that doesn't look too big. It's just big enough to do some good chopping and machete use. I also like the handle shape over that found on the others.

I'll definitely be taking that magnificent German Shepherd too

I would have to try all 5 before I could choose. :eek:LOL.
No I like the top one .Because it will reach farther in the pickle jar and it looks to be the best chopper.
And , will spread the Miracle Whip on sliced bread the best.:D

I'd also take the biggest one. I prefer bigger knives, as I feel they are more capable. Chop better, baton better.. even though they aren't good at the smaller chores, it would still get the job done.

Dr Bill I would take the second one down with the orange handled one a close second. 1/4 inch thick I could make shelter and fire which is very important in the cedar swamps up here. I could also process any game that I harvested. The large choil would allow me to perform finer work like fuzz sticks. I always carry snare wire and fire starting kit in my day pack. I know I could survive any situation with that knife.

I'm guessing the one with the guard is 5" and the blue handled about 3 3/4"??? I think I'd go with the one with the guard. Not that I like guards, but it looks like a great belt knife and very versatile. I'll find other ways to break up bigger pieces of wood and forgo the large knife in most scenarios.

Although the one with the guard is calling my name, I would go with the black handled one with the choil. With it's size and blade shape and the choil for even more handling options I find it to be the most useful.
Of course I really need to handle them myself to give you a better answer.;)

HONESTLY! I would take the blue one.

Simply put, I am a boring person that never seems to leave Missouri and everywhere I have been I bring my own food, water is plentiful (need to boil it), and twigs are always an option for starting a quick fire (with plenty of dead fall around for sustaining it).

I always carry a 3.5 inch fixed blade...but when I take my scout camping, we are not allowed to carry fixed blades...so I can make due with a folder.

For FUN, I will take the biggest chopper I can get! But honestly, I can make due with much less...and my life is so boring that any foreseeable "survival" situation will be remedied by a phone call or a <10 mile walk;)...and I will be so radically over-knifed for the situation anyway (because I always have several knives handy):D

So why the blue one? Because it will do everything I likely need, and it is small enough that I would likely carry it ALL THE TIME, and actually have it should any unforeseeable situation arise. As I said, I love a chopper, but mine are always at home;)

Great answers!!!!!!!

Siegle no longer makes knives with brass Guards....

I tried selling it a few times and I'm glad no one bit-as my wife loves it the most

That model would be the most comfortable in cold or very hot weather-as no part of the Tang is exposed.

The Top one is a GREAT chopper for it's size-and very comfortable

I sold the second one from the top last night

The Orange one is a Great all around knife

The Blue one Belongs to Carol

Thanks for taking the time to post what knife YOU wanted and WHY!!!

Dr.Bill

The orange one. Small enough to handle everyday tasks, big enough to baton and even chop some. I was first inclined to the black handled knife second from top, but I dont like the choile where it is.

The top one.

The blade is long enough to handle just about any task.

The blade is tall enough that I could grab it in various grips for detailed work.

The blade is thick enough for non-standard tasks i.e. prying.

The handle has a nice "hook" style end which helps with gloved use as well as gives the user the ability to "choke back" on the handle for more leverage when hacking at things.

The long blade maximizes the use of straight angles which for a non-expert sharpener like myself is best.

Beautiful collection Dr. Bill!

I'd have to take the Chinook chopper too! I'm not particularly skilled with any size knife so I might as well have the one that offers the most mental security.

id go with the orange handle one...its not too big not too small has nice lines to it and is easy to find.

first-Blue handled knife, as it will not weigh me down, and I love the puuko style grind and overall shape
second the hidden tang with the Brass guard, looks so comfy to hold, slight combat looking features(swedge), has a feeling of old school and It can do all.
