PICK YOUR KNIFE!!!!!----5 Siegles to choose from

I'd have to say the orange handled one but made from 1/8" stock would be my choice....LOL !

If pushed to pick an actual one then I think I'd have to go with the blue handled one, very practical size and still capable of performing most tasks that I'd be likely to encounter.

Good post Bill, I like forcing my grey matter to work every now and again !!!

I like the biggest one. It has the smallest choil and the handle looks like it would fill the hand well and allow for some confident chopping.

I'd go with the small hunter, like most others here have said. Not because of the guard (which I do like) but because of the size. The guard is nice because it protects your finger from slipping forward onto the blade for certain tasks like dressing. There is no need for a guard on a knife like a bushcrafter because the purpose of a bushcrafter is... well... bushcrafting. But if you've got a knife inside a wet, slimy cavity and you're pushing around and accidentally hit a bone and your hand slips up on the blade... well, when you pull your hand out you'll first have to determine how much of that blood is the animal's and how much is yours. :)

I am the proud owner of a beautiful SAR-4, and something with a 3" or 4" blade is the most I want in a knife. If I need to process wood, that's what an axe or--even better--folding saw is for. A folding saw in 9" or 10" size is very light, will fit in a large cargo pocket, and will allow you to process 5" logs without breaking a sweat. There's no need to whack around with a knife for wood processing, burning calories and risking injury to yourself or your knife! Unless you enjoy doing that... but it seems like a waste of energy to me.

Just look at that hamon... damn!

That would have been my choice, if it was included in the poll. I need to get me one of those,,, :)

Well, i'd choose the one w/ the brass guard. To me, a guard on a knife just makes good sense if *any* penetrating has to be done. Besides, they add a little space for grip for bushy kinda stuff.

Sorry; can't play...

Were I to pick 'just' one it would probably be the Orange handled one, but that would mean leaving this behind  :

In other words; Magnaminous_G has it right :D !!

I'd probably take the Orange handled model (looks like a 'Hardcore' variant IIRC).

I like the subtle drop point design, has enough belly for most tasks, grip looks like has some texture to provide decent grip but probably not enough to chew up your hands, ergos look good, bright orange so easy to find, and small enough to be easily portable (ie you'd probably be more inclined to carry it) but large enough for most knife cutting tasks.

It is a Siegle Hardcore model

What are the Lengths of these?

My first leaning is towards the Orange one, Im thinking it looks like a 6-7 inch blade, which is a great size for a ''all-around knife'' IMO. Big enough to chop and baton with but small enough for close-in tasks and easy to carry. The Largest one would get my vote, but the blade shape and general look is of a purpose built chopper...not as efficient for the numerous ''lil knife'' tasks that would arise. Some large chopper knives are easy to work small, the BK9 comes to mind, and some large knives are great at chopping but harder to use small...the Junglas for example.

Siegle makes great stuff, I had the privilege to handle a couple a month or so back.

This didn't factor in on my decision much, but the orange one is also my favorite as far as looks/design in that group.

I would choose the mid sized one with the brass guard. Looks like a good size, great shaped blade, and looks like a comfortable handle as well. The small blue one would be my second choice, looks like a nice puuko inspired design

I no longer own any of those

Byt if I recall blades lengths were

10"
8.5"
6.5"
5.5"
and 3"

Although i like a smaller knife for ordinary work, in an emergency I'd want the biggest one. Fire wood processing and shelter building would be higher priorities than fine work.

I'd also cheat and have a multitool piggybacked to it.:D

larger black handled one. big enough for wood processing. choil for finer work. spearpoint which would be good for drilling say a bearing for a bow drill. and small enough that its not a HUGE burden to carry

The orange one is my pick. Looks like a good all around knife. You have a great looking Shepard. Reminds me of the one I had. RIP. Sorry didn't see how old the thread was.
