Picked up a little paragon

Today during my lunch break I went to an estate sale and scored this little paragon kiln for 50 bucks.
I usually use my forge to heat treat, but now I am going to test this little machine out. The inside firebrick and coils are all intact. The only major thing is that I can only fit knives up to 8 in long.

Anyone here ever use one of these little kilns? How were the results?
Thanks

Great find if it works out for you. My Paragon cost considerably more that that, but I've been very happy with it. Good luck!

Went to the Paragon website. Looks like it's the Firefly Digital model. They want $760 for it on the current price list. Nice score. A bit cramped, but you might be able to sell it and kick in some money for an upgrade, eh?:D

I was thinking the same thing..for now I will try to heat treat some little hunters I have and wait a while to get the larger model with the door the opens from the front. I just heat treated a couple skinners and man was that heat intense...I think by Christmas I will purchase the larger model..

A folder maker would buy that in a heartbeat for $300-400. That and another $1000 will buy you a full depth paragon knifemaker's oven.

The problem with using it for HT on a normal size blades is that the blade will have to be placed in a position that puts the tip nearer to the coils. This isn't the best placement option. In the best use of a HT oven, a blade should be placed straight down the center with at least 2" from the tip to the back wall.

Stacy's right again... you need to learn to make folders. Slipjoints, liner locks, interframes, automatics, balisongs... :)
