Hey guys...I'm new to the forum. I've always liked and used knives, but only recently have I started obsessing over them. Anyways, I picked up this Knife yesterday from a local gun show. Thought I'd share.

Very nice. Any details on maker, components, custom? Oh, and welcome to the forum. [emoji41]

The Maker is from a neighboring town of mine in MO. His company is "R Bar Knives". The Darker color Grip is water buffalo and the rear grips are Ram Horn..
He said that he purchases the Damascus steel blanks and then forges the blade.

Some advice...if you have lots of $$ obsess all you can. But if funds are like most folks, stop your obsession now by not looking at YouTube videos on knives or surfing the web. I wish I was kidding but I'm not, you will spend a lot of cash. Hey, it's a fun hobby but can get very expensive. I may have made others mad by saying this, but they cannot dispute the fact that you will planning your next knife before the one you just ordered even arrived at your house. I know by experience. I had cash to spend but luckily I stopped my obsession. Doesn't mean don't have fun...good luck!

Follow this advice! Knives can be verrry addictive and become more expensive than a coke addiction! buy them but also enjoy what you own!

Nice knife.

I'm not here to be your guidance counselor, so I won't give you any advice on how to be a knife hobbyist, but I will say Welcome Here!

This is the truth. Knife obsession absolutely wrecked me in my early 20s. I made some bad mistakes and lost a lot of money. Thousands. I still love knives, but I'm much more careful with my purchases, now. Just try not to get caught up.

Since he is from a neighboring town why don't you pay a visit to his shop and ask him if you can watch him forge his Damascus blades from the steel blanks. Almost all knifemakers will not miss a chance to impress a customer. If he refuses to allow you to visit his shop or gives you lots of excuses why he wont let you then you may have learned a lesson in being very careful about buying "forged Damascus" knives at gun shows unless until become much more knowledgeable on knives.
Use the heck out of it and see how the edge holds up. There are lots of shady "knifemakers" at gun shows.

This^.

Knowledge, education, and information are some of your best assets when buying knives. Unfortunately, there are a lot of dishonest people in the knife world selling knives, and you can sometimes find them at gun shows. Sometimes they sell counterfeit knives (fake branding), and sometimes they misrepresent knives and sell them as "customs".

There is an industry of people buying finished knives from Pakistan, knives with no markings at all, and selling them as their own "hand made custom" knives. Such knives can look good, but they are typically made of very cheap, scrap steel (and that includes Damascus). These knives are sold from Pakistan in bulk at very cheap prices, and then vendors here in the US mark up the prices, sometimes even charging true custom-level prices, in order to separate the less knowledgeable from their money. And sometimes, the vendors will engrave their own markings on the knives to further give the impression that they are "custom made".

Custom knife makers typically have websites to advertise and sell their knives. One way to find information on someone who claims to be a custom knife maker is to ask if they have a website.

It's always best to do ones homework before buying. Especially if the knife comes with a high price tag.
