Wow lucky guy with the period correct blade replacement. I'm jealous since I've heard of other people wanting the same thing done when they sent theirs in and only had the option of getting the current blades.

I went to a local pawn shop for the first time recently. All they had were a couple cheap Rambo Bowie type knives. Nothing like the fantastic finds shown here. Buck did a great job cleaning them up. Congrats.

Those are really nice! Congrats on the finds and being able to travel to out of the way places and search for the not so easy to find older Bucks. Preston

Covering Wa, Id,Mt and northern Oregon has it advantages when your scrounging for old Buck knives in pawn shops.

Did we conclude that this is a 4/2 because of the stainless rocker?

That's what I conclude. Sometimes in a photo it's hard to say if a rocker is stainless or brass, but that looks like stainless to me.

Stupid spell check.
Carbon, it had rust on the inside. It's been cleaned now.

What's a "period correct blade", old parts with the same steel or new blade with the old mark?

Doesn't replacing it with a "period correct blade" makes it hard for collectors to know what is truly old, collectible and in great shape and what's a "Frankenknife"? Do they mark the knife or blade as being essentially re-manufactured?

I did not vanish I just have been busy
I still go with 4-1 From Joe's list If Brass rocker pin 4-2 if stainless steel

You just came along a bit late. :)
SportingSpecialist gave the correct answer (4-2) about 20 minutes after the question.
I agreed two minutes later.
The next morning some alternate theories were posed as possibilities.
They were interesting.
You said David "nailed it" when he said "5 ver., var. 1. It could be 4 ver. var 1 or var 2?"
His nail gun must have gone full auto and fired a burst.
:D

No, it doesn't make it "hard for collectors" it makes it impossible for collectors.
There are no new blades with the old marks......just old, leftover blades laying around.
Apparently, if you can go in person and know the folks well and bring them a sixpack of Mountain Dew you can get special treatment.
Would that we all were close enough to just drop in with our beater knives and our Mountain Dew.
