I went and got it last night, and I must say I am impressed.

It has a VERY scary-sharp edge from the factory, this knife is ready to cut anything you need cut. The tip is ground to a VERY sharp point, just the little times I tapped it with my finger it would draw a little bead of blood. I am very impressed with the blade.

They didnt carry any knife lube other than White Lightning, so I picked up some Tuf Cloth and some white lightning. After giving it a good whipe down with the cloth, and a good lube it will open instantly using the "flipper"

Usually you need to snap your wrist a bit to get the quick flip action, but with a few small adjustments of the pivot screw and a clean, lubed pivot she will open just as fast as any knife (besides spring assisted obviously) All you do in angle your hand downware a bit (using gravity to help you some) and with a quick motion snap the flipper down with your index finger. It will snap open very quickly.

To fully take it apart, you need a flathead and a small torx wrench. I think the torx size is T9, I dont recall.

The belt clip is very sturdy, almost too tight, as its hard to get on my belt with one hand. No chance of losing it though.

I am VERY impressed with this, is has passed the "spine wack test" as well. For 40 bucks, I dont see where you could go wrong with this knife. Great value, highly recomended.

I have a CRKT M-16 military in AUS8.
It is an adequate knife. It needs to be sharpened a little bit. BUT! the anadizing on the handle has held up well for almost daily off duty carry.
The coating on the blade is just starting to chip in places after a year.
They are decent knives for the money.
Which version did you get ? I'm thinking of the 14F in AUS 118 with carbon fiber handle but for that money I can get a Spyderco in ATS 55

 Time S ???? Yikes, after the first time (note - singular) you should'a figured it was sharp!

I've got a little M16-10F, and have had no problems. Mine too, was very sharp out of the box.

I have a small tanto tipped M-16 in AUS-8. It takes a super edge and holds it for long enough (for the chores I do.) Kit sure can design them. I want the Military version now with 4" blade. The green handles are cool, and I haven't got a flipper on mine. I was telling Kit that I wanted the Military one, and he sent me a pic of the new M-18 coming out. That rat bastid, now I want 2 knives!

Yes, timeS:)

My sharpness test consists of:
Running the blade very lightly over thumbnail, as to see if its a smooth grind, or if its rough

shaving some hair off my arm

Tapping the tip ever so slighty. A small bead of blood should appear:) Doesnt hurt, trust me:D

pedder2226 -- I think you've gotten yourself a good knife. I've had an M16-14 for going on 2 years. Carried it for near 18 months. Unfortunately, didn't take as much care for the blade as I should have. Most of my other CRKTs at the time had AUS6, which has given me zip in the way of corrosion problems. Can't say the same for my M16. Course, am not truly blaming the steel. It is bead blasted, and I am sure my pocket is a pretty humid area at times. (No, no incontinence problems, just sweat) Anyhow, take care of the blade and I think you'll really like your knife.

Give your new knife a bit of time to break in, and for teh muscles in your index finger to strengthen. I can hold my M16 horizontally, with the blade on top, and relatively easily flip it completely open. No wrist, just gravity hindering, then helping. Slick, like owl pellets.

So far I love it. I have been flipping it around quite a bit. I've got the hang of it now. In any given position, I can flip it out with no wrist snap or anything. Sweet:)

I got plenty of stuff to take care of my blade. As of now, I'm wiping it down with tuf cloth almost every day:) It does have a very light coat of 3n1 oil on it too.

I would highly recomend this knife for anyone who doesnt want to break the bank. It can be a worker, or a hunter. The blade profile is totally kickass, it can be used for skinning/field dressing a dear, or cutting card board boxes.

I was opening a bunch of boxes yesterday at work, I flipped it out (my first day carrying it) and my boss thought I had a switch. He liked it so much he went on his lunch hour and bought one just like mine, except he got combo edge(yuck;)) He really likes his knife too.

We bought them from a Cabelas store near us, they have a nice selection, and really take care of the knives before you buy. His wasnt as nice as mine, so the guy at Cabelas took it apart, lubed it up with some Miltech-1(im jealous of his pivot smoothness) and sharpended it up to a nice edge. Kudos to CRKT and Cabelas.

I've got M16-03Z and like it.

Light and sharp and so.

One negative point I have to say though:
The opening stud snags to my jeans back pocket or jacket's inside breast pocket (or whatever) while drawing.
I think mostly it is flipped open - or at least I do so - so maybe the studs could be little bit flatter (and less coarse).

I mean honestly, whats the point of saying you dont like crkt? What are you proving? What are you gaining? Absolutely nothing. What are you losing? Respect.

BF's built-in puke icon is too static, anyway.

I liked my M16-03Z so much,
that i wanted it to be something special,
so a friend did this to mine:
polishing the blade (by hand)
replacing Zytel with olivewood.

I carry it nearly everyday and have recognized zero rust- or other problems!
:D

I Like the wood inlay on the m16 nice job ???? Please post a pic of your fingers when it cuts them off !! Ya Razor the barf thing is real good

If you are worried about lock failure, buy upcoming the m18 with lawks lock and remember to engage the lock every time.

Nice knife!

I'm in the process or polishing all the metal on mine. The blade, and the two scales on the inside of the handle. I rather like the handle material, so I'm gonna keep that.

How did you polish it? The good ole' 600, 800, 1200, 1500 wet sand; dremel w/flitz trick?

I wonder how do you folks use your blades?:confused:

I used folder whitout any lock for years - no damage done. My grandfather - a carpenter - told me how to use (and keep) knives with care and obeisance.

As said, I've got M16 - and I've used it as a utility knife quite a long period - and still got my fingers left.

Of course, if knife is used as a pry bar (why not use a pry bar or at least fixed blade?) or if it's false edge is banged to objects with power, lock can fail. But is the knife designed to such a use???
