Pickin' the wrong EDC

Is it really and EDC if you carry something different every day?

Ya know, I've thought about this a few times myself. I think EDC refers less to the exact models you carry, and means more specifically the types of items you carry. We call it everyday carry, because we carry a knife, keys, phone, wallet, flashlight, mini hammer, micro-barista coffee maker, whatever, everyday. While the knife you choose may change, the fact that you carry a knife everyday remains constant.

This inexpensive Victorinox Farmer may just be the handiest knife a guy could carry.

This thread is slowly devolving into a standard EDC thread (partly my fault). Let's hear those wrong EDC tales, folks!

One of my favorite wrong EDC tales was the morning I got up and grabbed only my SAK Farmer, it was a cold icy winter mornin' and all I was doin' was runnin' my daughter to school 'cause she missed the bus.

Any way as I came around the curve by this local farm I slid off the road into the drainage trench and into the snow fence surroundin' his fields.

Needless to say all that snow fence got wrapped around my axles and drive shaft and all I had was my Farmer, (kinda ironic that I had the SAK Farmer and it was a Farmers field I was in) man how I wished I had a fixed blade or a Leatherman, after 2 1/2 hrs of cuttin', (thank God for the saw blade) I was able to drive out.

I now know how capable of a knife the SAK was, still I would've been a lot happier if I had chosen a stouter blade that day, (could've been worse, I could have only had the SAK Classic on my key ring :))

One afternoon, I had a Spyderco Persistence and a Vic Classic on me. A buddy gave me a Corona which I opened with the end of my Spyderco. It worked, but I slipped and tore up a bit o' skin on the bottle-cap. I have since switched out my Classic SD for a Rambler.

My wife likes the occasional bottle of soda and every time we'd go somewhere, I'd inevitably have brought my Classic instead of my Rambler (heck, they look pretty similar at a glance)! I bought a Utilikey and figure I'll never have to deal with this again, since it just sits on my keys and I don't notice it. The bottle opener definitely isn't the greatest, but it'll get the job done in a pinch. If I have my Rambler on me that day, so much the better.

:tiger::tiger:Personally, I love Benchmade. Right now I carry an REI special edition blue 530, but it's more of an emergency tactical blade, so I am in the process of acquiring a Mini Griptilian. Love those! :tiger:
