Picking a pen

For the money, it's hard to beat the S&W pens. I like the M&P model.

For the record, I like fountain pens as well, maybe too much. I won't admit to how much I have invested in them. When did Pilot buy Falcon? What I'm having trouble with are inks. Old Parker and Waterman inks have gotten hard to find.

I think it used to be Namiki Falcon, but now Pilot Namiki. Tons of pen info over on fountainpennetwork.com. Most fountain pens.

I recently bought the CC Stainless Embassy, the Tao, the Fury and the Schrade. On a hunt for the "perfect" pen. I admit I like my toys.

I carrry the Pico on my key ring and it is a keeper. It just works.

As far as a tactical pen... I work in schools now and as we all know they frown on "weapons" of any form. I feel like anything that could give me an advantage is worth considering.

Of the ones that I've played with so far the Fury (also sold as the UZI I believe) is a formidable weapon. I had to chuckle when I read about the DNA collector on the end but it is sharp and would do a job. It is designed to be clipped on a clipboard or ticket book. Definately not for pocket carry. I put a Fisher refill in it and it writes well.

The CC Stainless is a beast. Really heavy and would work in a loaded fist scenario. The worst thing is the cap not securing to the base when it is in use. There appears to be plenty of steel on the end to machine the threads so I'm not sure why they didn't.

I carried the Schrade last week and for the money I like the Gen 2 model. The cap screws on tightly and if you had to you could use it as a stabbing weapon. Decent looks and it writes well. This appears to be the front runner for now.

I'll carry the Tao next week and post a couple of notes on it.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I look forward to your Tao review rnpollard. All the praise for the Embassy does make it more attractive but not being able to attach the cap to the back of the pen is a deal breaker.

I was going to start a new thread but figured I could just high jack this one:D

I am looking for a metal pen with flat and philips style screw driving bits on either end. Here is a pic of what I am talking about.

I currently use the Pilot "Better Retractable Pen" and I love it. I got to thinking that one of those universal screwdriver bit heads would fit nicely on the writing side and button end. Too bad it looks like it has been patented already :grumpy:

Go with any pen that you like. I carry a libelle Chromatic Sport in a fountain pen and when closed you could easily cause pain. I make pens, so look for one thats made sturdy and dont just focus on titanium etc. I make mine with wood turned over brass tubes and they could cause significant damage. Any pen can be tactical while not screaming "tactical" or "can be used for bad intentions." Just my 2 cents worth

My standard office pen has been a Zebra F-701. Sturdy and never seems to skip. I just picked up a few more for < $6 each at Staples. Everyone that sees it and writes with it falls in love with my pen. I end up giving away quite a few :)

I put a Fisher refill in my old Cross classic twist pen. I like it! A bit on the thin side for long term writing, but I have carried this in my shirt pocket forever. The Fisher refill is cool. Rugged pen......
